“Great rooms, great service and great location!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

Just stayed here a night for business. This is a great hotel, truly deserving of 4.5 or 5 star status. At $195 this was great value. Must have had something to do with the Easter break. Anyway, the rooms are sweet. Nice large flat screen TV. The bathroom was a real highlight as well. Stylishly designed! You could sit in the deep bath, watching TV through a glass wall. And sound wasn't an issue as there were extra speakers in the bathroom. And they even had CNN and CNBC..which is rare to find at Aussie hotels!
Location wise, close to Darling Harbour and many other sights. I don't think it gets much better than this. Highly recommended.

Styed for three days/2 nights... was completely not what I expected. Reception was slow and unfriendly - had to wait an hour for my room to be ready - stayed in a Grand Club room, which is not worth it in a value/quality context. Club Lounge is completely uninspiring, with a lack of ambiance and friendly, attentive service reps. My room was filthly and had hair all over the bath, toilet and showers, including on my bed... cleaniliness was definitely an issue. Amenities are poor and run down. I don't know what all the fuss and positive reviews are on this site, but felt completely cheated and misguided by the reviews below. Will never stay there again and had a very poor first impression of Sydney from this hotel. Shame... what a waste of a perfectly good location. Would prefer ShangriLa or Four Seasons to this anyday...

The rooms at the Westin are either in the Tower (modern contemporary style) or heritage (elegant, restored in the GPO). I prefer the modern tower rooms which have a great shower (including rain shower) and bath. The Westin bed always gives a good nights rest.

As a platinum guest I have access to their pleasant executive lounge which serves a wholesome breakfast, light snacks during the day and evening cocktails. Room internet is wifi and fixed ethernet.

I've stayed many times at the Westin and have found that now I'm a regular guest my experience i improving every time. More staff are welcomimg me by name which is a nice personal touch. Although there's still a grumpy gentleman on the concierge desk that doesn't seem to enjoy his role as much as he should....

The gym is very good as well. Pool, weights and good cardio equipment.

In summary, great location, comfortable rooms but expensive (high room rates, parking is super expensive).

My partner and I stayed for 6 nights in March and enjoyed our holiday in Sydney very much. Mixed feelings about our stay at The Westin: The room was on the small side but adequate as we don't spend much time in there. We loved the beds, very comfortable with a good supply of pillows. We loved the lifts, fast and prompt. We loved the free wi-fi in the lobby downstairs and wished it could be extended to the rooms. We loved the rain shower in the bathroom although the diverter is quite difficult to operate. We hated the room decor, stainless steel and glass, sharp corners everywhere, not to our taste. Glass panels with glass doors in the bathroom, can't be closed quietly, the bathroom counter is too small for use and the washbasin is designed to splash water all over the counter if the taps are turned on too strongly.
A couple of outstanding negative points: The electric kettle in the room is dangerous, it has a small steam outlet exactly where ones thumb goes when lifting the kettle with a normal grip. After being burned twice I learned to pick up the kettle with an abnormal grip.
The other point concerns complimentary water: two free but small bottles of drinking water are provided but are hidden away from view in the closet. But on the bathroom counter in prominent view where other hotels leave their complimentary drinking water, there are two inviting bottles of water with an invitation to "stay hydrated". Unfortunately, the $7 charge for each bottle is printed very feintly in tiny letters, seen too late ! Water for purchase should be located more obviously in the minibar, this comes across as an underhand marketing trick.
Talking of underhand, a charge of $1.50 as a donation to Unicef appears apparently automatically on the room bill. When questioned, the cashier informed us that there should be a note in the room inviting us to donate, no such note of course. No-one would begrudge a small donation to Unicef I am sure but does it have to be done in such an underhand way ?

I have stayed at the Westin Sydney whenever I go to Sydney. It is convenient, short walk to the main shopping area. There is afternoon and morning tea, breakfast is A1, could not find a better place to stay. The staff are extremely friendly and just ring a bell and they are there.

Great place to stay.
