Stayed here for 8 nights in February 2012 on business. Check in was fast and smooth, worth noting is that all credit cards are assessed a 2% fee by the hotel for using a credit card (this is true in a lot of places in Sydney). Key access is a swipe card / proximity chip card for your room and elevator. The rooms themselves are large, clean and stylish and appear to be very recent from a renovation perspective. The baths have separate shower/bath, marble floors, a 110v outlet for shavers, shaving mirror and standard toiletries. Housekeeping came once per day (generally around noon on our floor) and did an excellent job keeping the room tidy. The hotel has a a gym/indoor pool with changing facilities which they will allow you to use for very early check in to shower and change if you get there ahead of your room being available. The hotel also contains a bar/restaurant, the restaurant (Bistro Fax) is expensive but we had a very good meal there first day in Sydney. The bar/lounge is small but staffed by excellent bartenders and is open until (I believe) 11pm daily. I would note that the drinks are not cheap ($8/local beer, 12$/cocktail).
All in all a 4.5-5 star property. i would stay here again especially at the rate of $275 AUD/night, which I thought to be reasonable.
10 minute walk to Circular Quay (ferry docks/opera house), 10-15 minute walk to The Rocks, centrally located to many businesses, 20 minute walk to Darling Harbour, 25-30 minute walk to Sydney fish market. Cabs are available right outside the main entrance, cabs also appeared to be reasonable and did take credit cards with a swipe terminal right in the cab for Mastercard/Visa/Amex. If you do use a credit card in the cab there is a 10% service charge.
Things to do:
Right across the street on O'Connell street is the Blue Stone Cafe: Amazing breakfast and lunch
The Rocks: Nice Bar scene, great restaurants (check out "The Cut" for a great steak
The ferries: Ferry service to Manly is a must do, good sight seeing, scenic ride
Opera House: Check out the Opera bar right at the foot of the Opera house
CYCA Yacht Club (Rushcutters Bay): Temporary members (free) welcome, cheap drinks, great food, great harbour view with sail boats.
Sydney Fish Market: Take a cab, it's a good walk. Chinese restaurant up top open what I think is every night uses the fresh (live catch) so even if you cannot make it during the morning to see the activity here you can still check out the seafood.
