On an extended international vacation its often nice to just come home to Dear Old Mother Marriott, and this is the only hotel we picked personally instead of deferring to our travel agent. Glad we did; warm welcome from the concierge, Great breakfasts and evening hospitality in the lounge, and fabulous views of the Opera and the Harbour Bridge during our two brief overnight stays. Neighborhood initially seems crowded, but amazingly convenient to the Opera wharf and the wonderful gardens and museums of the Botanical Garden.
Two things: we asked the concierge to recommend a nice pub, and he directed us to the Old Customs House--without mentioning its actually the Marriott bar. Food was great, as was the service, and we could charge the meal to our room, but still, we felt slightly played for country bumpkins.
And secondly, unlike it the States, they make you stand in line to check out. Oh, the horror after years of just dropping off the key card and getting the statement via email.
International travel is just so rigorous.
