Review of Hilton Sydney
2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Sept 2016
Where do I start? Not sure which was the worst thing so will list in no particular order. A) no wi fi. Some people got wi fi when they were enticed to join theHilton Honours plan on check in. I wasn't offered it so no internet. Can't believe a 5 star hotel does not offer this as standard in the 21st century. B) noise of lifts in room. Should be given a discount for having to listen to this all night C) turning on a switch that looks like a light switch near the door but turned out to be the "do not disturb" button so when I returned to my room after working for 12 hours, it hadn't been serviced D) no pen in room only a stubby pencil. Had to write a complaint letter to the hotel in pencil

The location of the hotel is very good for a tourist, right in the middle of the shopping area with plenty of food options nearby, and close to trains and buses. Checkin was quick and smooth. We had a very good room on the 43th floor. It had a desk, and a couch, and the bed was very comfortable. There were no power outlets on one side of the bed, so we needed to use our own extension cord. The bathroom was on the small side but functional except there was almost no countertop space around the sink. We only used the executive lounge one time and it was mid afternoon, and they had scones and cookies available. We used the restaurant for breakfast, and it was an extensive buffet. However it looked much better than it tasted; hot food was not that good, but the pastries and breads were fine. We had the premium internet, and it worked well on Sunday and also on Monday - until around 6pm when it ground to a crawl to the point of being unusable; it was fine again Tuesday morning. I would definitely return to this hotel next time I'm in Sydney.

Dear ats262m,

Thank you very much for sharing the experience of your recent stay at Hilton Sydney.

Hilton Sydney is nestled in the heart of CBD which provides a variety of choices for tourists and business purposes, since we are also surrounded by buildings, the higher the room is the more to see. I am delighted to learn that you were in the top floor of the hotel and enjoyed your stay overall.

Thank you very much again ats262m for the lovely feedback, we look forward to welcome you back at Hilton Sydney in the near future!

Sincerely,
James

Stayed here on business for $270AUD per night as a Diamond Hhonors member. Received an "upgraded" room (didn't seem particularly special to me) on 37th floor and access to the Executive Lounge (on the 36th floor). More than anything else, I think 3 things are critical to hotel stays - Location, Sleep, and Shower.

LOCATION: 4/5 So this is right in the central business district near lots of shopping and a few blocks from the Sydney Tower. However, it is a good walk to the water, which you can't see from this property (nor the Opera House or Harbor Bridge).

GOOD SLEEP: 5/5 Great bedding, nice climate control, and the room was quiet.

SHOWER: 5/5 Really nice shower with good pressure and consistently hot.

Some other thoughts....
- Upon check-in I was given the longest list of Diamond benefits I have ever seen in my life. I intended to take a picture of it but forgot. However, the prize is that you are allowed to eat the full buffet breakfast in the restaurant (an excellent spread of many varieties) and access to best Executive Lounge I have ever been in (and I have had a couple of other associates tell me the same thing from their trips here). You can get continental breakfast in the Lounge if you want a quicker and more quiet breakfast, but it is much more basic. However, the lounge is huge with nice views (of the city) and evening cocktails/wine/ beer as well as an extensive variety of canapes and desserts.
- The location a couple of blocks from the Town Hall train station is also very handy for going to / from the airport.
- Very nice working desk, complimentary tea/ coffee bar, and a thoughtful power adapter available. Also complimentary newspaper delivered at your room every morning.

A few small disappointments:
- The restaurant breakfast buffet (complimentary for me) was wonderful, BUT probably the most important part of breakfast is COFFEE. I get that a buffet is serve yourself, but I think you must need fireworks to get service in here, which is surprising because there were tons of staff standing around everywhere. They filled my coffee cup when I sat down, but for 4 consecutive mornings (usually 30-40 minute sitting), no one ever returned to my table to check on me except for one time....and after telling me they would try to find coffee for me, they simply never returned.
- The elevators require you to scan your key and every single time I got on (and same for others who were on with me), you had to scan your card 5 or 6 times before it would work. Sometimes it took so long that the elevator had skipped your floor.
- Upon checkout I had one of my "free" Diamond HH bottles of water on my bill, which the clerk pleasantly removed without question....but then proceeded to charge me for it separately (I discovered once home), requiring a phone call to the hotel.
- Bathroom sink area was incredibly tiny, I sometimes had to angle my arms to shave.
- I arrived on a Wednesday night around 10PM to find the hotel restaurant closed for a private party and all the nearby malls/ restaurants closed as well (seems around 9PM), leaving 7-Eleven for dinner.

Overall however, I am counting the days until I can come back!

My husband and I spent a night at the Hilton Sydney.

Pros:

Close to everything/ centrally located
Great restaurant on site
Check in and out was excellent

Cons:
rooms are very small - which would be ok if there was less furniture in the room. Think the desk should be flush against the wall
dirty towel in the bathroom on arrival
the room opposite us had housekeeping going in and out of the room from 3pm - 9.30pm and there was continual slamming of doors. We did call reception twice but they didnt really do anything about it.

Overall was an ok stay but wouldnt stay there again

A classy hotel in a great CBD location. The executive lounge was good and the staff were very professional and assisting as always. We stayed for my partners birthday and they made sure to leave a little something in the room which was very appreciated. If it wasn't on the pricey end we would be staying here much more regularly!
