Perfect location

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Sept 2023
Great location, comfortable and clean room. Staff was very helpful and always had a smile. This hotel is located right by Sydney Harbor so it's easy to take a ferry anywhere you want to go. It's walking distance to the Sydney Opera house. Just a great place to stay.

We booked direct and then followed up with a phone call to be assured we'd have an accessible shower facility. During neither phone call or booking confirmation, were we advised of limited facilities. We chose this venue because of location to the cruise terminal as I was recovering from a recent knee replacement . A 5 star venue wasn't important for us it was purely location and convenience.
We arrived in a taxi around 6 pm Sunday evening the night of the Women's World Football Cup Final. Whilst my partner was dealing with the check in I stood back and looked around noting dim lighting, no porters, receptionists not immaculately presented as one expects, nor were they very friendly. When given our keys we enquired for directions to the restaurant and found as it was Sunday evening, the bar and restaurant was closed and therefore no room service either!!
Upon taking the lift to our room we noted scruffy carpets and the less than clean presentation of the lifts and how 'dead' the venue appeared.
The room itself presented well and was very clean but didn't have the accessible shower as expected and confirmed would be, by phone.

Reception advised there was only 2 accessible showers in the building and neither was available and they could not assist us. After we queried the assurance we'd been given, we asked to be refunded and proceeded to find an alternative option.

Whilst doing so, we were amazed the price we had been charged and prepaid, was 65% MORE than what was on offer online through booking platforms. As I am writing this now TripAdisor's rates that appeared on the screen, re-confirms I'm not exaggerating.

We found a true 5 star hotel $100 cheaper very close by, took our refund and the night ended well.

How can your venue retain a 5 star rating when you don't offer a drink or meal of any kind on a Sunday or Monday, is beyond me. I've read other reviews that echo much of our experience.

The suggestion this is an old hotel in a heritage precint doesn't justify charge 5 star prices without providing 5 star service and facilities. Could not recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. Please note we are a 4 star hotel not 5 and also a heritage listed hotel in the Rocks area, which is known for his Sydney history.

The hotel is neat and clean - and in a great location. It is ideally located as is not far from trains, trams, buses and ferries.
The roof-top pool is great and also up there provides a great view of the harbour, Opera House, City and Bridge.

Room tip: During VIVID the prices were elevated. Normally it is well priced for the location and all services.

We booked through booking.com. First mistake! It was rated 4.5 stars.Omg it certainly wasn’t 4.5 Stars, we (two couples) would rate it 2.5. From the moment we arrived, the staff were dreadful. They seemed inexperienced and not very helpful. We went to our rooms and were all totally disgusted in the rooms. Tiniest bath with shower over bath, we are in our 60s and don’t want to be climbing over the bath to shower. The room was old, stains in carpet, dent in doorframe, furniture had marks, the room was small. No water or anything in the fridge, The bathroom was tiny, no room to move in it! There was only one towel, my husband phoned down for another one and when delivered it was very damp! The elevators were filthy, the staff were unhelpful and overall it was disgusting!
How this was rated 4.5 stars is beyond us all….

Room tip: Dont book here! It is not a 4.5 stars it is disgusting and definitely not worth the money $430 outrageous!

Dear VivoW, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. I'm sorry to hear you didn't find our staff helpful as we normally receive great reviews about our fantastic staff. We are a very old hotel as we are located within The Rocks precinct of Sydney which has a great historical significance. But I understand this isn't for everyone. Thank you again.

Hotel is so well located in The Rocks, particularly if visiting Sydney for Vivid - it was walking distance from Circular Quay, Barangaroo/Darling Harbour and the CBD. Great cafes nearby and reasonable views from the rooftop.

Service was very good. The rooms are dated and stuffy but I think that is in large part to the heritage listings - but it’s otherwise comfortable.
