To me, The Strand Arcade represents grace and elegance long since lost to the modern commercial marketplace.

With its iron lace balconies, its stained glass windows and its cedar stairs, The Strand Arcade is home to a variety of shops and businesses, most of them up-market and expensive.

The Strand was built between 1866 and 1890, and when it opened it was hailed as the finest shopping arcade in the British Empire.

Two major fires nearly destroyed the arcade but it has been faithfully rebuilt and restored and gained NSW Heritage Registration in 2011.

Nice place in the middle of the city. I went here to go to the Mens Shaving store--Men's Biz--and was pleasantly surprised by what I saw. Both the shaving store and the walk around to see the architecture were worth it. Make the trip and have a drink and relax.

The Strand Arcade is a heritage listed Victorian style arcade in what is said to be the first Victorian building in Sydney. It was built between 1890 and 1892 and has had two fires although the store fronts have been fully restored. It is interesting and has character but mostly fairly average shops, with some exceptions. Worth a stroll through and definitely better thaan the Pitt Street Mall..

Like its big sister up the road, (The Queen Victoria Building), this arcade personifies the Victorian era on an equal footing. This arcade, built in the 1890's is quality Victorian architecture. The outlets are fairly upmarket, but there are a number of eateries which allow you to take in the atmosphere. It has a number of floors, but to take it in, all you have to do is wander between Pitt and George Streets. Great little coffee shops and tons of high retail outlets. You don't have to spend, you just have to look.

If in downtown Sydney, this should be on your list of places to stop and shop. Housed in a marvelous historic arcade building, the collection of unusual shops and restaurants is great.
