“One of the better local pubs”
Reviewed 14 July 2012

Haven't stayed here - however can speak for the Strand as a casual relaxed watering hole for locals and tourists alike.

Bar staff are exceptionally friendly and patrons (while a mixed bag) are generally very friendly.

Food is very affordable - I recall a $10 lunch deal that included a beer. By way of pub food it's quite good (steak sandwich or bangers and mash are to be recommended) - filling and tasty.

Gaming on site (TAB + pokies) ... yet not overwhelming the overall feel.

Friendly laid-back ambience - one of the less well known gems of Darlinghurst/Kings Cross (security guard keeps the riff raff out on a Friday/Saturday night).

First the cons: my roommates inner bedcover was gross. Hopefully just an exception?!
Pros: the other two in our room were clean and so was the rest of it. For a hostel very clean toilets and showers. The location is really good. Short way to kings cross and a bit longer to CBD. Friendly staffs.
And make sure to stay there on a Sunday night. They provide a free BBQ and that was really good. I expected normal sausages and toast but they also had burgers and really good salad. And you can enjoy it on the pretty good roof top.
Next time again!

We had to check in through the pub, which after a long walk to the hostel isn't what you want.
The rooms were quite big, but the balcony door didn't lock so anyone could have walked along the roof and into the room. The floors were filthy and our bed sheets hadn't been changed. The pillows stank of greasy hair and sheets like body odour. We had to ask for clean everything.
The kitchen was a mess, good thing they have cheap meals downstairs. Only nice part about the hostel.

I stayed in this hotel over new years and had a pretty good time! I really like the location. It's on William St - the main road between the CBD (city) and Kings Cross (the main backpacker area).

The hotel is based over a pub, and to check in you need to go to the bar area. I stayed in a 6 bed mixed dorm and my room mates were really friendly. There is also a brilliant roof area which is amazing when the weather is good. There were quite alot of long-stayers but it didn't feel clicky. And the staff who worked there were really nice, so all in all it wasn't too bad for the price.

Wouldn't recommend staying here if you like super-clean hostels/hotels. The bathrooms were pretty dirty and my bedsheets were stained. I kept on finding pigeons in the kitchen area which was pretty gross (the door/window was left open and they kept flying in). Plus there weren't enough lockers in my room so couldn't lock my stuff away and the wi-fi didn't work. There's no actual indoor common area so if the weather is bad you won't have much to do if you like to stay in.

I think that if you like to meet people and want to be in a good location this is the place to stay. It's a bit grimy but I liked it.

Had a good time. In fairness it was the crowd that made it but got good roof top to drink on. If you want luxury your barking up the wrong tree. If you wanna good time in a great location, this is the one.
