We stayed here in three twin bed rooms. Rooms very small and a bit tired. Bathroomwas good. Very noisy air con! Very cheap coffee sachets were not appealing. The location was great, pity about all the light rail work in George St.

Room tip: Ask for a room at the back.

The Great Southern Hotel is in a fantastic location if you are coming to Sydney by either train or bus to Central Railway Station. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the station. The owners have maintained some of the hotel's heritage characteristics while modernizing the rooms. The rooms can feel a little cramped and the bed is not the most comfortable I have ever slept in but they are adequate.
I have always found the staff very thoughtful, polite and caring. I may be a little old fashion but I just love the breakfast, lunch and dinner that you can get at the hotel.
Chinatown and the Capitol theatre are a couple of the locations which are close at hand but if you are from the country or interstate and you are into cricket, rugby league, soccer, rugby union, netball, AFL to name a few it is nearly the perfect location. I have also found it a convenient hotel to stay at before departing on a number of cruises.

Room tip: The 8th floor.

We stayed here for a three day city break. Whilst the rooms seem dated, they are in kepping with the period of the hotel. Rooms are comfortable and the on site restaurant gives good value for money. The bar holds happy hour and is a comfortable relaxing place to settle for a while. Hotel location is very good and staff obliging.

Terrific central location and so convenient to Central Train station. All staff from reception to the breakfast buffet staff helpful, friendly and courteous. The rooms are spotless and comfortable. Loved the art deco touches throughout the hotel and hope that the historic look never changes. Breakfast buffet substantial with a good variety of choices. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed three nights on this hotel just to figured it out that they serve the same breakfast every morning, medium taste. Wifi doesn’t working so well. The only pros is the location. Located just in the middle of “Chinatown” area which you can find many restaurants and shops.
