“Rude Management ruins holiday and beware of charges on credit cards”
Reviewed 6 January 2011

We stayed as a family in Pacific Towers for about 2 weeks in one of their Bush view apartments on 6th Floor. Apartment spacious as per previous reviews with good provisions in the kitchen, close to a quiet beach and other amenties.

However, the management's only engagement style with us seemed to verge on hostile. All requests met with surly indignation and all other talk met with hostile accusations throughout the stay.

On Christmas day, cooking duck for family and friends - the aforementioned firealarm was set off with the accusations that we were burning stuff in the oven. Fireman called despite clear indications in the oven that there was no burning of the ducks - simply normal cooking with any well-ventilated unit should be able to cope with. (I cook ducks regularly at home with well installed smoke alarms and have yet to set it off in 8 years). Told that fire service would charge $600 for visit despite reassurance from fireman that no such charge would be applied. So beware - this is not really a self-catering apartment - you may not be able to make use of the cooking facilities apart from the microwave before incurring fire alarm charges.

To top it all - they said that we had broken a table leg - presenting no evidence of breakage and a further cleaning charge. Total bill - a whopping $352 taken directly from credit card. Please ensure that your credit card company does not authorise any such payments - usually such behaviour would be called theft.

In other words, find other places in Coffs - which is a lovely breezy town.

Our family stayed in these apartments for 10 nights over the Xmas/New Year period. Our 2 bedroom ocean view apartment (1103) was spacious & well furnished. Nice big comfy leather lounge to watch t.v. in, a 6 seater dining table, main bathroom with separate shower/bath, walk in wardrobe in the main bedroom with ensuite , fully equipped kitchen, internal laundry, air con in living area & main bedroom & fan in second bedroom. In general we were very happy with our apartment (although not all apartments have air con in the main bedroom or a fan in the second bedroom, so be careful when booking). The only suggestion I would make is to have a second t.v. in the main bedroom. The apartment complex itself is situated across the road from native vegetation with a walkway which takes you straight to the beach & about a 5-10 minute walk along the beach to get to the patrolled area. It is only a few minutes drive to Park Beach Plaza & many take away outlets. I would highly recommend the Bowling Club which is just down the road for a casual dinner. All in all, a lovely & quiet place to enjoy your holiday.

Pacific Towers is like a high rise motel! Its down the quiet end of Park Beach which is a lovely part of Coffs. There are special rules posted everywhere "No sand in lifts", "No bringing surfboards through foyer", "Put rubbish in bins on 1st floor"....etc etc.

The rooms are certainly big, and if you are on the 8th floor or higher you will have a great view! The decor is distinctly 70s but adequate. The owners didnt give the impression that they were very happy doing what they were doing but were not actively unpleasant (to be kind!). I have to say, service is not particularly one of Coffs strengths though, so the alternatives and the other places I have stayed (most of them) are no better.

We atayed 2 nights in a 2 bedroom bushland view apartment. This apartment complex is about 20 years old. The apartments are all individually owned and some owners are residing in them and some have let the managers manage and rent them out to holiday makers.
I checked out a list of apartments in Coffs Harbour I was interested in and when we got there, we ask to view the apartments before deciding to stay.
The manger on duty first took note of our request for either the Bushland view apartments (Levels 2 to 6) or ocean views apartments ( Levels 7 to 16 with the penthouses at the topmost level). We chose the bushland view 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms apartments and she showed us 2 apartments, one on the 4th Level and the other on the 6th level. We didn't like the unit on the 4th level as the furnishings were rather dark and dreary. We settled for the apartment on the 6th floor because it was furnished in a bright nautical theme and thus looks a lot brighter although the apartment on the 4th floor has undergone a more recent makeover than the one we stayed in.
The hotel website has a list of the tariffs for the different apartments on the different levels and we found that useful in budgetting our holidays.
The apartment is situated at the end of a small road and is very quiet and peaceful at night. There is only one airconditioning unit in the living area but it was sufficient to cool the rooms to a comfortable temperature at night if you leave the bedroom doors opened.
The layout of the apartment we had is quite big. There is a big master bedroom with a small balcony wrapping around it and a ensuite bathroom with a shower.
The 2nd bedroom has a set of bunk beds, a single bedder at the top bunk and a double bedder at the bottom bunk . It has a large closet and the main bathroom with shower and bathtub is situated right next to this room. There is a small laundry room with a washtub/washer and dryer next to the main bathroom.
The apartment is very old and shows its age, especially in the kitchen. We didn't use the electric jug to boil water during our 2 days stay there as the inside of the jug looks black as if someone's been using it to boil coffee. The apartment is clean enough but not spick and spank clean so if you are looking for a newer and cleaner place, then this place is not for you.
Also, because it is a bushland view apartment, that means it overlooks the trees, we had 2 big moths sharing the apartment with us so keep the windows shut at night. We could see a lot of beetles outside the balcony doors in the mornings.
The managers have a lot of rules regarding the apartment. There is a fee if you accidentally set off the smoke alarm should you cook without switching on the smoke extractor because apparently the apartments have very sensitive smoke alarms. (We didn't even boil water)
There is a fee should you drop your keys into the crack between the lift and the lift well and the Lift Company has to be called in to retrieve the keys. There is a fee if you mess up the wire connecting the TV to the entertainment system and they have to call in the experts to reset the system.
Makes us wonder if they get a lot of irresponsible renters that they have to come up with the huge list of dos and don'ts.
Also, you have to clear your own rubbish and that involves washing and putting away all crokeries and utensils that you use.
Glad to get out of there after 2 days but it is one of the few apartments in Coffs Harbour offering 2 bathrooms that we needed because our 2 teenage girls takes ages to use the toilet.
We considered the Ocean Gem Luxury Apartment which is only about 2 years old and nicer/cleaner but they are also at least AUD $30 more per night. Also, the railway track runs right behind the Ocean Gem Apartment Complex and we didn't know how often the train goes by and how noisy that would be so we decided not to take the apartment.
Overall, if you simply want a reasonably clean place for a short stay and don't mind the rules, this may be one of the more affordable places in Coffs Harbour you can find.

  • Liked — Big! Had 2 bathrooms and quiet at night.
  • Disliked — Too many rules!
