I stayed in the hotel recently and was very impressed. The staff are very attentive and welcoming. Free mini bar and snacks in the room is quite unique, and buffet breakfast is included...about time this becomes a standard of all hotels.

Stayed at Ovolo Nishi while in Canberra for work and it was very enjoyable. I had the ‘pad apartment’ and the room was clean and cozy, but missing a few things (no light over the bed!).

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would stay again if I was in the area but maybe get the hotel room next time!

What a stylish and intimate place to stay! We were wowed by the entry and continued to be wowed by personal service, fine eating, lovely comfortable room, terrific funky lounge area and all the many little extras. We had particularly wonderful service from restaurant staff, who went above and beyond to ensure our vegetarian requests were satisfied. Generally, we spend the majority of our time when staying in a hotel in our room, but here we loved to while away the time in the library area or general lounge. The four day break was a lovely treat and we look forward to returning.

After leaving the NFSA we visited this intriguing building. The Palace Cinema is downstairs and at the end of the fascinating staircase is the hotel lobby and bar. It is a popular spot for sitting and enjoying a drink and lovely snacks. We had a Pinot noir and IPA as well Yarra valley smoked salmon and fish roe with blinis and sour cream. Lovely dishes and a very interesting place to relax on a wet Canberra afternoon.

But don’t start at the front door when a westerly wind is blowing !
This is an interesting property; fabulous use of recycled timber provides a marvellous staircase from a ground floor access, but that is not front the front door, which is an awkward access point for first time visitors to the property using their motor vehicles. And when the wind is blowing from the west, the formal reception area is akin to the Grand Canyon !
My accommodation faced the lake; the room was very comfortable, and the complementary mini bar a revelation, given it was restocked daily. Room appointments include ‘retro’ furnishings, but the wall mounted cupboard next to the bed presented too many opportunities for skull fractures...
Eating at the property’s restaurant was a delight; ‘sharing’ plates are a feature, and the various dishes offer enough variations to satisfy every dining option.
The staff - with the exception of one bar staffer who seemed put out by customers - are helpful and friendly. Value for money is not a consideration; the property, and its location, is what it is, but worth the experience of at least one stay.
