The bed was ordinary and the bathroom minute. Apart from these negatives the staff and service were excellent and the breakfast was top shelf.
However there are better options if you are going to spend more time in a room.
Built in 1972 and in need of more than cosmetic touches to make it quaint.
Be careful before accepting the ‘ bottoms up ‘ in room treat. The small ( unseen ) cost is $15 for almost nothing.

There’s no escape downstairs from incessant very loud music. No manager ‘available’ to raise the matter with, and staff not allowed to turn it down.

The breakfast ‘pump jug’ coffee was cold and I think a sheep had died in the water it was made from. They charged extra for anything else!

Staff very pleasant if helpless and food good

Room Tip: Don’t bother

Close to everywhere including Parliament, a five minute Uber or cab. Super friendly staff including Tarn the F and B manager and Emma the waitress. The staff in the top floor lounge also great. The restaurant and bar are always buzzing which is what you want in Canberra! Beats other places which might have top level reputations but are stale and sterile with study-like decor. I will be back. Cheers!

Not sure what the rooms are like, but late 2017 I attended a conference there, and the food was to say the least very ordinary.
Hot food was mostly served luke warm, and such things as partially cooked potato in a potato salad, and pretty ordinary fare in general.
I and others wished there was more other food easily accessible from neighboring establishments(at our own expense), but time was too limited to manage it.
Maybe it's OK to stay, but when one aspect of the establishment screams sooo loudly that no-one gives a crap, or that they don't know what they are doing, then I'd wonder about what I might get.

Room Tip: Good luck.

Hi Geoff,

Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback.

We are disappointed to hear that you were underwhelmed by your stay with us- we pride ourselves on delivering an extraordinary experience for our guests. Our approach, while quirky, usually enhances the levels of service, and we are disappointed it fell short.

We are glad you enjoyed your room, however are disappointed the conference food didn't quite hit the mark. What is also disappointing is your comments that the team don't give a crap or don't know what they are doing - it make it very difficult to correct an issue when you have not taken the time to speak to the team about your concerns.. We pride ourselves on our food offering in both the C&E and also in Capitol bar and grill but this time we have come up short, please accept our apologies.

We hope you will give us another try the next time you are in town so we can give you the QT experience we pride ourselves on!

Until then, take care,
Jason

Stayed for four nights 5 nights for work.

PROS
- staff overall very friendly. Helped amend my stay so I wouldn’t have to change rooms for last night.
- funky furnishings.
- good location.

CONS
- requested a wake up call on morning of check out, but didn’t happen.
- air conditioning in room would make sporadic noises, so I had to turn it off.
- no gym, but that was known prior so not too much can be held against the hotel
- hotel rooms are showing their age - sink blocked easily, air exhaust in bathroom didn’t really work.

Would stay again, but there might be better options for other travellers.
