Had a couple of nights here recently & loved it. The room (king) was huge & very comfortable. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The food was a little disappointing though with my wife's flathead tasting very flat indeed. The waitress was very nice & didn't charge us for that dish. Loved the decor & the feel of the place. It's also just around the corner from heaps of points of interest in Canberra.

Its a lovely hotel with staff who care and want to assist. I have been staying there for the last 20 years, and they never remember I am a returning guest. The food use to be good quality, now alas there is quantity but not quality or taste, so eat out of the hotel.

Classic beautiful hotel has lost its high standard and drifted into the franchise mentality of the buffet. The best high tea in Australia has now slumped to ”average”. Good coffee spoiled by poorly managed service, be prepared to wait for any food. The pool has been taken over by the local aged/infirm brigade who act like hotel guests are intruding.

This is the 2nd time we’ve stayed at the Hyatt.
It’s got great staff, great location , great service, excellent breakfast ,
great old world atmosphere, anyone who wants more than that, then they should go and stay somewhere else. THEY WONT FIND ANYWHERE BETTER.

This is our fifth visit to the Hyatt Hotel Canberra. We love the heritage building to bits and the capacious terraces and garden squares in a semi-park setting.

The food service, this time, frequently disappointed.

Hot drinks served to our room in cold metal jugs meant that the drinks were tepid even when poured straightaway (the request for porcelain jugs fell on deaf ears); toasted sandwiches which were cold after travelling 30m from the kitchen (twice); wrong order delivered for lunch in the lounge; ordinary salt & pepper shakers accompanying room service order even though we had requested and had confirmed that a pepper mill would be delivered; being told at breakfast arrival that we did not have lounge access, even though we did; at one breakfast being able to order eggs florentine to the table and next breakfast being told we had to assemble it ourselves from the buffet bar (with long-cold hollandaise sauce sitting in a large metal jug).

These small things add up, eventually frustrate, and create the overall impression that near enough is good enough.

Room tip: Stay in one of the upstairs heritage rooms with its own balcony. Blissful wind-down at the end of the day.
