This is my first visit to the new Gallery. We didn’t see the paid exhibit but wandered around the main gallery rooms. Great art and informative historical knowledge.

Beautifully laid out, the National Portrait Gallery is worth a visit whilst in Canberra. Free entry to all exhibitions except for the current Australian Movie Stars exhibition ($12 fee to enter) and free parking underneath the gallery on weekends. I spent about an hour wondering around.

This is fascinating gallery and small enough that you can see all in a relatively short time.
Take the tour. It is well worth it. Our guide was informative and friendly and told us so much that it enriched our visit.
There is such variety in the “portraits” - both in the subjects and the way the artists have represented them. Interesting perspectives and insights into a range of individuals.

The staff seem to go out of their way to help and the parking is good.

quick review of the gallery, some interesting works, great little shop and the cafe looked good so we stopped for a coffee and cake. Coffee was very bitter (double espresso) carrot cake looked lovely but lacked flavour and a tad dry.
