A limited display of portraits and busts with interesting information on each one with Boyd being a highlight.

Went to the Portrait Gallery on a quiet Tuesday with my sibling.

The gallery is well curated, and the displays were cogent and well-planned. The door man was the soul of courtesy.

However, the experience was largely ruined by a vigilante gallery attendant who wasn't wearing a name badge. She haunted us from one exhibition to the next, peering at us around corners, and hastily ducking away.

She approached us twice to give us unnecessary warnings about standard gallery conduct. In one case, she stood watching an elderly woman struggling with her walker, and ignored her instead to warn us about not touching the paintings or it would set off alarms. At no stage did we touch any painting, and at no stage was any alarm triggered.

Her conduct was unexpectedly harassing, and really ruined the gallery experience. Most of my gallery experience is in Scotland and Ireland, where the attendants are courteous, enthusiastic, and knowledgable. This was not the case in this visit, hence my rating.

I recently went to the "starstruck" exhibition. It was well worth it and when we finished we re visited the main space ... always great

The latest exhibition, Starstruck, is wonderful! It is much larger than similar exhibitions held at the National Portrait Gallery, deservedly so. The images, and the stories behind over 90 years of Australian movies are just brilliant. This is a joint exhibition between the National Film and Sound Archive and the National Portrait Gallery. It is not just an exhibition of portraits as there are iconic historical costumes associated with the Australian Movie Industry, many you will recognise if you have been a fan of the Australian Movie industry.
This runs until March 2018, do not miss it!!
