Horrible

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Aug 2019via mobile
My room was tiny, the bathroom had black mould, the room smelt dank and mouldy and there was bright light coming all around edges of the hallway door so impossible to get to sleep. I called reception to advise of the issues and was told that they could not switch off the hall lights nor move me to another room. So I spent the whole night awake with the light and smelling mould. The worst hotel experience of my life. Canberra has plenty of hotels - there is no need to settle for this place. This place is absolutely dreadful

Dear 726nicolam,

I am very sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy your stay with us.

I certainly will address your feedback regarding the bathroom and rectify any shortfalls.

In regards to the hall lights, unfortunately we cannot turn them off due to safety reasons for other guests. I have also been informed that our Front Office team did offer alternatives to block any lights that came through.

Kind Regards,

We stayed at Peppers Canberra on a recent weekend stay and chose the Peppers based on its location and having previously stayed at the superb Peppers in Mornington Peninsula.

We checked in late after the 3 hour drive from Sydney and settled into our comfortable premier room and then after this parked the car in the building next door which was a bit of a chore, but at a relatively reasonable $15 a night.

The room was reasonably well maintained apart from the leather (?) pealing off the bedhead onto the sheets. It was spacious, and came complete with a mini bar, coffee machine and a good selection of cable channels. The room had a view of the courtyard and despite a well functioning AC to maintain the room temperature, the same could not be said for the bathroom which had no heating! Using the bathroom in the middle of winter in a freezing bathroom is not my thing.

Service was pleasant throughout the hotel, although we didn’t sample the restaurant. Surprisingly there is no room cleaning on the rate we were on, making your own bed for $170 a night misses the mark in my opinion. They did suggest you can pay more to receive a room clean.

Overall not a bad choice of Canberra hotel, and less than 10 minute walk to downtown.

My husband and I recently had a 2 night stay here - great location, a 10
minute walk into town. The rooms are small but nicely finished. Has a great bar downstairs & there’s a couple of fabulous bars & restaurants behind it.

Quite disappointed with this property as when staying at a peppers - Luxury springs to mind but not here. Looks like an old hotel renovated slightly sort of like the Mercure Canberra but much more expensive. Premier room was sizeable but basic. Twin beds were tiny like children’s beds. Maybe 90cms wide! No bath as well 👎. Continental breakfast very poor - room very dull & has no atmosphere-terrible toaster , limited selection & not stocked efficiently. Parking limited- had to pay to walk 5 mins from another hotel.Plenty of better properties around at a better price. Doubt if I’d be back.

Booking.com described Peppers in canberra as a character filled hotel on the shores of lake BG. Checked in and were given directions to drive 2 blocks away into an apartment tower. We had a 2 bed 2 bath soulless apartment on the 10th floor. Apartment was quite new, very spacious, but incredibly clinical. probably good if you were a long stay guest, but not really what we thought we booked. No “hotel-ness” about it. We had to provide a bond for the room (seriously a bond for a hotel room?) and there is no late checkout for the apartments because “they take so long to clean”. Poorly stocked mini bar (for a room that sleeps 4), and the bed sheets were so uncomfortable it was like sleeping on paper.
Breakfast the next morning was a chaotic affair as the restaurant was clearly understaffed. One poor person who had lost her patience earlier in the morning and was struggling to look like she cared. Really not her fault she should not have been in that situation. Won’t go back. Peppers used to be up market, luxurious and special accommodation. This was sterile and impersonal.

Dear scott c,

I want to share my apologies with you for your recent experience with us.

I am sorry to hear that our 2bedroom apartment was not to your liking. Our 2bedroom apartments is often the favourite choice for families waning to still feel at home when travelling, and we certainly also offer more traditional hotel-like rooms in the main hotel building.

I will also share your feedback with the restaurant team to ensure we review our service and offering for Breakfast.

Kind regards,
