Soulless staff on reception - basicaly polite, but not anamoured with their role: seemed disinterested. Good bar space, with an attempt at a library nook feel, but slow and sloppy service. Inadequate heating: We shivvered in the bar area, and the restaurant and all had to go upstairs or to nearby hotels in s ome cases, to grab scarves and jackets. There was a warm fire in the reception area which is generally not used by anyone other than the occasional guest that's waiting for a cab. Meanwhile, everyone else is freezing in Spring.
The room was nice enough and appointed on an adequately hip manner. But this is not up to the standrad of the Sydney Diamant; not at all. Close though to
a really great gourmet breakkie caf/ grocery/wine store: That was the saviang grace of this place, I felt.
I made the best of my 2 nights here, but I will not return. The restaurant was a shamozzle; the staff were confused and lacked coordinating management, and worst of all lacked knowledge in all areas, and the food was shocking. It was also freezing cold in there, the lights were far too bright, and were it not for the fact that I was doing my best to enjoy the company of the people I was with, I would have walked... Much earlier... Very disappointing overall.
The other thing we could not help but notice was that everwhere we went, from restarant to WC or similar, there were service doors left open to utility rooms, so that all guests had no choice but to see tubs of dirty laundry or random plastic wheelie bins full of disgusting kitchen debris. Even in my hallway to my room oveer a 3 day period, every single hall service linen press cupboard was open on display, every day and night, so that I had the displeasure of seeing the working grime and guts of the hospitality business. Really bad form, and c ertainly made it memorable, for all the wrong reasons. For the prices, it was all wrong: Really.
