A medium sized hotel in a small seaside hamlet in Ancona.

We arrived to a cold blistery evening. The car park in huge, mostly under the shade of trees. We unloaded the bags and hefted it up two flights of steps to the main lobby. The hotel manager came out to help us.

The curly haired young front office person checked us in and insisted on keeping our passports. Our passports were slotted into the cubby hole or left on the counter. I asked when we could have it back and she answered "when I'm done with it", complete with a non-committal shrug.

I was not comfortable with this arrangement. I checked with the group who had arrived around 4pm, and their passports were still at the front desk.

About half an hour later, we came down to the lobby again and requested our passports back from the manager. (We could see a stack of passports from our group on the desk and in the cubby hole). He graciously photocopied the relevant page and gave it back to us. Wouldn't it be easier/less hassle/less aggravating for guests if she just did that when we checked in? How would they remedy a situation if our passports (an essential travel document) went missing?

We were traveling in a large group and dinner was arranged in the large dining hall downstairs. Food quality was good and very filling. The wait staff were polite, professional and efficient.

Our rooms came with breakfast and it had plenty of continental fair, with bacon, sliced sausages, and scrambled eggs thrown in. Coffee is freshly made; not from a coffee flask.

Our rooms were simple. Doors are opened with a key card and electricity is controlled by a key car slot. The two lamps on the wall light up the room; I found this rather glaring.

Our room had a built in sofa/bed in an alcove for the young one. There's a small cupboard and a combination safe. The safe was locked and we did not manage to use it during our stay.

A study table was placed next to the cupboard. A flat screen TV with Sky cable TV box was on the table. However, we did not get the chance to peruse the channels.
Wifi can be received from our room.

There's no complimentary bottled water, and a simple box with some toilet essentials left on the sink.

Hairdryer and soap is mounted on the wall. There's a toilet and bidet. Showers are taken in the bath tub with a fiber glass folding door to stop water from splashing out.

Rooms are not sound proof and we could hear our neighbors discussing their day, amongst other sounds of human interaction. We could even hear our neighbors iPhone chiming after it was plugged in to be charged. However, we were too tired to bother and fell asleep once our heads hit the pillow.

Overall a pleasant stay at the hotel, short of having our passports potentially go missing.

We stayed on a B and B basis as we were visiting friends. The breakfast was buffet style and suited everyone. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and English was spoken by mos, although we were the only English people there. The pool was beautiful and there were plenty of sun beds. It is only a short, flat walk to the beach, which is very scenic. I particularly liked walking past the small lake to see the turtles and dragonflies. You will probably need a car to visit the Marche sights as there aren't any easy ways of getting around otherwise.

My partner and I spent 10 days travelling around Italy, and this hotel was by far the most spectacular.

It is set against the most beautiful backdrop of mountains, with the ocean just a short walk away.

The staff were friendly, rooms clean and furbished with airconditioning and balconies overlooking the terraces and mountains.

We lounged by the most beautiful pool while sipping on cocktails.

The nearby beaches are fantastic and the restaurants great.

I will definitely return to this hotel - only for much longer next time.

A must-visit!!

Helpful service and good breakfast . But the room , 222, was very noisy , roadside and some kind of generator directly outside the window working all the time. Irritating! On the positive side, beach just 5 minutes walk and conero bus linea 94 stops just 50 meters from the hotel, final destination Portonovo baia.
