Ambience: Located in the heart of the new city of Davangere (North Davangere), Opposite to Bapuji Auditorium and Dental colleague, it gives an opportunity to experience food watching the fast pace of the city. However this is possible only if you able to get a seat in the 4 tables located on the road side. The other drawback is, it also fills your plat of dosa with dust and sometime Mud as it is open area exposed to main road and makes you feel you as you are sitting just few steps away from the road. The other area may sometime chock you with smoke and heat of the slab on which Dosa is prepared, unless you are habituated to it.

Overall: 2 star if you get the road side view however during evening.

Hygiene: The restaurant tries to maintain a decent hygiene however don't expect too much. After all you are having Dosa (Rice Pan cakes), Chutney (Coconut mix with Chilly and coriander) and Palya (Smashed Potatoes with Onion) served on banana leaf served in semi-washed steel plate. Sometimes you can also see feel the oil of previous dosa on the plate however that is covered with small cut banana leaf and thus may not play a vital role in hygiene ratings.
Overall: 1 Star in Hygiene

Service: This shop is run for years in Davanagere and most people who have not actually tasted the Benne Dosa just go with name of being old authentic one stop for Benne Dosa. This has made an huge foot fall in this small restaurant which is difficult for the guys to manage. Thus don't expect any hospitality. Even your smile and politeness will not make much difference as the staff is not exposed to that much. This is only the place to have some food without much expectations. You get chairs and tables to sit and have the Benne Dosa / Sada Dosa and that is it. You should also not be surprised if the order is taken is a loud voice. You may feel ignored sometimes however that is common in this place thus don't feel for it.

Overall: Pathetic for someone service focused and occasionally tries to experiment, Ok for frequent travellers and good for someone really hungry and want to have Davanagere Benne Dosa.
The owner / Cashier does have a polite attitude and sometimes listen to you.

Food: I am having Benne and Khali Dosas for years and I know how a Benne Dosa should taste. The recent benne dosas are burnt rather being crispy. The butter taste should ideally stay on young however here it stays on your hands as an oily stuff.
Khali dosa and Chutney was once upon a time a great couple and now it just stays as a supplement to extinguish hunger at cheaper price.
Compared to Benne Dosa I could recommend Khali Dosa.
Overall: 3 Star for the food

Price: With increasing prices of commodities it becomes difficult too run hospitality industry and thus I could say the price for the product is very decent however if you consider the whole package of service, Ambience and quality then it is bit on the higher side.
Overall: 3 Star

We had taken a night halt at Davanagere while on a road trip when our hotel manager there recommended this when asked abt. good dosas in the town. I must say he was 100% correct. It was a coal fired dosa. It had loads of butter and served with very spicy chutney served on a banana leaf. It might be difficult to find a place to sit as it tends to get crowded in the evening.
