We were at Point Prim last week for a girls get away.

This lighthouse allows the option of GOING INSIDE and CLIMBING TO THE TOP - which we discovered is RARE and not available at the other lighthouses we visited in PEI. The fee to climb to the top is $5 pp, but you can enter the main floor for free.

TIPS: wear proper shoes not flip flops. Bring your camera. Take your time/be patience.
Only 1 person can go up or come down at a time. People are waiting for other to go up or come down. There are 4 levels to climb, one of which is the Lighthouse Keeper's bedroom. The spaces inside are VERY SMALL.

You are literally climbing UP A LADDER STYLE SET OF STAIRS. When you come down, you have to figure out how to come down backwards. It's tricky. Small children or someone who is afraid of heights could have a very difficult time.

The 360 degree view from the top is spectacular.

The gift shop has clean bathrooms.
Ask the gift shop clerk to BLOW THE HORN they have so you can hear the sound. The Lighthouse's light is on display there also. If it's not "on" ask her to turn it on.

The employee there was EXTREMELY NICE and HELPFUL and VERY WILLING to share everything she knew about lighthouses and the family who first was the keeper of that particular one.

NOTE: we learned this location is where CRUISE SHIPS bus passengers interested in a day trip to a lighthouse.

Numerous lighthouses, but this one is worth the drive, Historical landmark. Built in 1845. Picturesque with awesome views of the coastline, Staff warm and welcoming. Lovely gift shoppe, but pieces from local artisans on the "pricey" side.
Ample parking area, picnic tables and sand box for the little ones.

Also enjoy a meal at the Point Prim Chowder House....won't be disappointed.

It's a pretty drive (aren't they all?) and you are rewarded by an open historic lighthouse. You can climb up 60 feet, chat with very enthusiastic guides/staff and learn about the lighthouse. They've just installed the old light on a new turntable, so you can ask to see it work. On a sunny day, it's impossible to take a bad picture, the place is so pretty. Walk the red rock beach at low tide and hunt for little crabs and starfish.

Always loved Pt Prim Lighthouse. No better sunset views. Tours of the lighthouse! And my fav chowder house steps away (make a reservation! Pt Prim Chowder House!)
But last week they made it even better. Great gift shop with local art, lighthouses and tons of fun things to take home.
