“Noisy neighbours spoil the peace”
Reviewed 14 November 2016 for a stay in November 2016

Beautifully equipped and furnished cottage in tropical Far North Queensland. The owner was very helpful and accommodating, providing us with a huge amount of information and offering a late check-out.
Unfortunately the peace and tranquility we were expecting was somewhat disturbed. The cottage is in a residential street, with neighbours on one side playing loud music every afternoon and on the other using some kind of noisy power tool every day, including from 8.30am on Saturday.

We are shocked at the severity of your rating considering that you obviously enjoyed the house by remaining on site every day. Not only did you leave us with chocolate smears and cheese shavings covering the whole kitchen floor and brown chocolate stains on our 1,000 tc bedsheets, our arm chairs and one of our green feather filled cushions, you spilled oil down one side of our back security door (probably coming in from the BBQ with the drainage foil). It was quite a task getting the oil out of the holes in the metal grill from the door handle to the floor level. Many of the kitchen cabinet handles and the fridge door handle were oily. There was cream on our white side table. The BBQ gas switch was left in the ON position. You broke one of our wine glasses. The wall of the hallway leading to the back door had a scratch 1.2 cm long x 0.5 cm wide, with 0.2 cm gouged out of the render. You also ruined one of our Egyptian cotton hand towels by leaving permanent rouge stains that could not be removed without bleach. And to top it all off, we found our digital door lock passcode on a small scrap of paper thrown into the lawn next to the driveway. There are witnesses to the above description. Due to the amount of food smearing, we took exceptional steps to disinfect all towels, bedlinen, surfaces, floors and some furniture including the bed. It was a huge mistake I made forgetting to ask for a security deposit due to distraction caused by your wife arriving with a small arm sling for a slight fracture.

We state clearly that Reef Cottage is located in a residential suburb. Our next door neighbour on one side does not play loud blaring music. They do occasionally play music but always at an acceptable volume in a residential area. The neighbour on the other side is currently renovating a bedroom and while we did forewarn you, this is not a normal occurrence. Both neighbours are completely quiet at night. The neighbourhood is dead quiet from 9.00pm during week days and from 11.00pm during the week end, except for the waves at shore and occasional bird calls. Most people rise with the sun. For late and light sleepers, we do provide ear plugs in each bedroom (noticed unused).

I checked with you in the afternoon of the third day of your stay and obtained a text response: “All fine thanks. Having a relaxing time. Thanks for your concern”. Your description of every day intrusion is wildly exaggerated. Your rating of our facilities is inconsistent with the property quality that you summarised. We take care in preparing the house and do our utmost to provide a special experience for every guest, hence, we are very disturbed by the carelessness in your manner - from the way you used the house, to the erratic way in which you handled your appraisal. We find your rating unreasonable. Your behaviour is deplorable, not as expected from our normal guests.

“Delightful home with all you could want”
Reviewed 3 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

House and location were lovely, as was our host Mei, who was friendly, helpful and very intent on making our stay as pleasant as possible. I would recommend Reef Cottage to anyone.

The house itself is well equipped and immaculate. The cottage is well situated with easy access to the beach and all the highlights of the region. The garden was pretty and we enjoyed the pool. We are not fans of the heat so we particularly enjoyed the mild weather in early September.

Thanks for your hospitality Mei.

:)

“Wonderful holiday home”
Reviewed 30 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

If you are reading this, looking for somewhere to stay whilst exploring north Queensland, look no further. This cottage must be, by far the best there is.
Mei, the owner is a lovely lady who has obviously put a huge amount of time and effort
into creating the perfect holiday home and she has thought of everything. My wife and I
stayed for six days and loved every minute. The only downside - you won't want to leave. Thank you Mei.

“Perfect home base in FNQ”
Reviewed 28 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

If you are looking for a home base to explore Far North Queensland, look no further! Host Mei is exceptionally helpful and shares her local knowledge. There are so many things to do! Next time we have to stay longer. The cottage is the cleanest, best equipped and nicest decorated rental home we ever stayed in. The garden is beautiful and private, liked the plunge pool and everything else like the lovely collection of books, DVD´s and even an iPad with loads of information what to do, maps etc.

“Immaculately Presented”
Reviewed 26 September 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Reef Cottage is immaculately presented with high quality furnishings and equipment. There is also a very pleasant back garden with decking area, BBQ and private pool. Wonga beach is only a minute's walk from the cottage and is great for beach walks or simply relaxing. And the stunning natural scenery of Daintree National Park is a short car journey away, via the Daintree River ferry.

The owners have great attention to detail and go out of their way to ensure that every conceivable need is catered for. They were a pleasure to deal with before and during our stay and promptly provided some invaluable assistance when we needed it.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Reef Cottage as a very comfortable and relaxing place to stay and a fine base for exploring the wider Daintree region.
