“A perfect place and Host”
Reviewed 7 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Our family stayed at the reef cottage in july for 5 nights. We enjoyed the little paradies! It was a perfekt base to explore the Daintree region. Mei is very friendly and helpfull, her tips and support for doing a daytrip with Brett was super..

“Perfectly located cottage that has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing holiday”
Reviewed 6 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

My partner and I were very impressed by all the amenities provided by this cottage. It had everything we would possibly need for our 5 night stay. The little things showed the thought put into the place such as camping chairs (with a shade cover!), an esky for a picnic, insect repellant, hats, umbrellas etc. These small items made for such a comfortable holiday.

The whole place was very clean, it is a great idea to have a foot wash out the back to maintain the cleanliness of the place.

The location is amazing! It literally is only a 2min walk to a beautiful quiet beach. Watching a sunrise or two there is a must!
It is also ideally located between Port Douglas and the Daintree. So much to explore.

We used the very informative documents provided that show what activities and tours you can do in the area. Again, the thought put into this place is fantastic.

We absolutely loved this place and would stay again in the future.

“Extraordinary place”
Reviewed 6 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We have just visited Wonga beach with our two kids staying at the Reef Cottage for a week, hiding away from Canberra cold and rainy winter. We can highly recommend it to anyone seeking adventures holidays in the North Queensland. First of all, it is perfectly located between Daintree and Port Douglas in a quiet village just 75m from the beach. Second of all, if you ever wondered what home away from home looked like come and stay here. Not only it has literally everything to comfortably live in and being entertained, it is meticulously maintained by Mei and her husband Mike. Third, you most likely will receive personal attention to all your holidays needs from the moment you are welcomed by Mei on your arrival, as was the case with us. The only regret we had, we wish we could stay there longer.

“Home away from home”
Reviewed 1 April 2016 for a stay in January 2016

The property is ideally suited to two couples travelling together as long as you are happy to share a bathroom/toilet. The two rooms are on opposite sides of the house so each couple has privacy, and the main bedroom has an additional private sitting room. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you could possible need. Mei stocks up with plenty of supplies for breakfast and we didn't want for anything. The house is set in a suburban area a short walk from the beach. The back yard is very private with garden setting, pool and bbq. Walking into the home is like walking into the pages of a luxury magazine - Mei is an incredible interior designer. We especially enjoyed the eclectic but locally-specific collection of fiction and non-fiction available in the generous library. Wonga Beach is a good location for exploring the lower half of the Daintree, Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge and Mei can supply very detailed self-drive tours for further away attractions. Highly recommended.

“A GEM OF A PROPERTY IN A PERFECT LOCATION.”

A GEM OF A PROPERTY IN A PERFECT LOCATION.

It's a week now since we left Reef Cottage and we're now continuing our two-year world trip.

Reef Cottage was our thirtieth rental home through various rental agencies. Rarely do all the elements come together as they do at Reef Cottage.

Firstly it's location: only two minutes walk to a gorgeous unspoilt tropical beach.

Then there's the immaculate safe and enclosed garden, which has direct access to a protected reserve with it's pretty creek. We loved following the creek to join the beach at a remoter location, where we paused to enjoy the heavenly views of the Low Islands. I can still hear the waves and the chorus of exotic birds.

A bonus to this wonderful restored fisherman's cottage is that the owners have invested heavily in protecting all habitable areas from annoying creepy crawlies. The house and garden are meticulously maintained. The photos are accurate in their portrayal of the imaginative and artistic interior design. This is unique and actually quite sophisticated. It's also much more spacious inside than the photos suggest.

The cottage is so seductive we could hardly tear ourselves away. The owners have provided a library of expensive books about the area collected over thirty years. There are even lovely children's story books. We devoured those books and it added immensely to our understanding of this World Heritage tropical rainforest.

Reef Cottage is only twenty minutes from the Daintree River ferry which will take you into a paradise a world apart and a journey you will never forget. Add to that the proximity to Port Douglas, Mossman and Palm Cove and the location couldn't be bettered.

Lastly a word about Mei.the owner. She's Chinese and has a gift for sharing and radiating her enthusiasm for life. Take time to learn from her extensive knowledge of the area. I have never met a holiday home owner so gracious and generous. I won't give details here, you will have to find out.

This gem of a cottage is full of surprises just like its owner.
