We hired two single kayaks and Ruth took time to kit us out with waterproof bags for our phones, picnic and books. We also took a day pack with our beach towels and two litres of water each which we needed as rather than 2 hours we ended out staying out for 4 hours, spending a couple of hours lazing on a riverbank having lunch, reading and swimming. These all fitted 'below deck' in lidded storage areas. Ruth gave us a mini kayak lesson including how to use the rudder. Although we just did a small loop it was a great taster and we can now understand how kayakers can just camp along their journey with all they need stashed away. It was a beautiful way to take in the quiet majesty of the Murray River.
