The location is about an hour to Siena/Florence, but such a beautiful area with a couple of small villages 5 mins away by car, one with a great and cheap restaurant. Also a big supermarket 15 mins drive away and some famous Chianti villages within 20 mins.
The old winery has been superbly converted into holiday apartments and even has a small museum showcasing the old equipment and cellar. In fact we had a tour and wine tasting to check it out with the owner. He was very generous with his time and friendly, so it made for a special experience to hear some history about the place. The wine is really good, so we took a few bottles home from the selection each room has, for a good price.
The apartment itself was better than in the pictures as the refurb was not to long ago so everything was in great condition, bigger than anticipated, clean and good quality.
Unexpected extras were the nice general terrace area with 2 indoor BBQs, and a pizza oven. For the number of units, this area is quite generous and well equipped and when we used it was just us there even though in July. Also the windows all had fly screens which was unexpected but really handy at night against mozzies.
The pictures show the great views and pool area, and it was sensational to lay around on warm days with plenty of sun lunges and umbrellas.
SO really couldn't fault this place at all, and can recommend. We hope to get there again one day with friends and try the Villa.
We two couples stayed in Castellaccio #2 and were extremely satisfied. Plenty of room. Great kitchen. Convenient location to Lucolena, Dudda, Figline, and the AutoStrada. Loved the outdoor patio and closeness to the pool. Plenty of parking. Bathrooms were very nice. Could use more seating in the living room to enjoy the fireplace. The washing machine could be larger also, but it would be OK for a one-week stay (we were there for two weeks). Only 30 minutes(or less) to Sienna, San Gimignano, Radda, Greve. Be sure to tour the Carpineto winery at the bottom of the hill, and espresso and a roll in the morning at the "Dudda Inn" is a must !!!
