“Exceptional property, exceptional location, exceptional owner and host”
Reviewed 14 July 2016 for a stay in May 2016

There is little one can add to the already great things said about villa il Castellaccio, other than , perhaps, that they are all true. Quite magnificent,..I have stayed in others like it, but this one has many unique qualities: Good supermarket shopping is only 15mins away, and a great north-south railway connection (at Figline Val d'Arno) is 20 mins away. Do NOT miss out on the Jacob's cookery class! You 'll never know how to make decent ravioli from scratch until he shows you!

“Two weeks of Paradise”
Reviewed 25 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We lived in the villa for two weeks and most of our large family spent time with us - not all at once! Leonardo was great, the location made trips to the vineyards and hill towns very easy. Dinners prepared by Jacopo (recommended by Leonardo) were outstanding. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Lots of privacy - but ample space for gathering in larger groups. This trip was to celebrate the lives and company of our children, and grandchildren. I think I speak for them all when I say this was a picture perfect place to spend warm Tuscan days and enjoy the beauty of Italy. Waking in the morning to church bells sounding across the valley started each day with pleasure and anticipation of new adventures to come. Perhaps again...

“A brilliant villa in a beautiful location”
Reviewed 17 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

The villa is incredible - plenty of space and with everything that you could need for a relaxing holiday in the heart of Tuscany but in striking distance of the major sightseeing towns. Leonardo and team could not have been more helpful and did all that they could to facilitate our stay.
For runners, the hills of Chianti make for excellent training....but get out early before it gets too hot. The pool is a perfect cool down!
Highly recommend the villa. Book before you travel if you want to sample the owners wine and olive oil.

The pictures are beautiful, BUT the reality is even more beautiful. The host was wonderful and helpful. The villa was clean, very spacious, well-equipped.
Looking out over the olive groves and vineyards, listening to the church bells mark the hours in the medieval village across the valley, sipping on the villa's excellent wine, and planning the next day's trip to another Tuscan hill town, or maybe Florence or Siena. Or maybe just take another nap. Or maybe walk again around the old stone villa, just admiring the architecture and history of the place.
Maybe it gets better than this.
But I don't know where.

“perfect tuscan holiday”

The villa il castellaccio is an exceptional place to stay. First, it is centrally located to all of the sites in and around the Tuscany area. It is a short drive to Greve, or to Figline to pick up the train to Florence. It is also a reasonable drive to Siena, Montalcino, Montalpuciano, Lucca, Pisa and Cinque Terre. The villa was clean, in excellent shape, and there was plenty of hot water.

The villa is exactly as described, only better. We were a group of 8 in the villa, with another couple staying in the nearby apartment. There was plenty of room for all of us in the villa, and the pool was a refreshing resting spot after a long day of sightseeing. There are 5 bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. There is a living room and a sitting room each large enough for all of us. The lower level has the kitchen and dining room and laundry area. The kitchen has an Americano coffee maker, but there are only dry goods supplies in the kitchen, no foods, spices or herbs. This is for health reasons. There is a dish washer and Leonardo supplies the soap for it. There is also a very large dining room, big enough for at least 10 people.

There is also a clothes washer, also with soap, but no dryer. There are drying racks and in the hot sun, clothes dry in only a few hours. There are showers and a bathroom by the pool for convenience. WIFI was excellent.

Those are the facts, but the real benefit of the villa is Leonardo as the host of the villa. He is one of the nicest gentlemen one could meet. He is very accommodating and responsive to our requests. He arranged for sightseeing tours for half our group in four different excursions. Each one conducted by an English speaking guide, who was charming and informative. Leonardo also arranged for a chef to come in on the last night of our stay and cooked us a fantastic dinner. We may have had our best meal of Tuscany at the villa.

Leonardo speaks English very well, although he is modest about his ability, and we had no problem communicating with him. Our cell phones were a problem in Italy so we were sometimes out of touch with him, but he visits the villa often enough and answers emails very quickly.
