We took a taxi here from Pereira ($70 US for the day). The taxi took us to the end of the paved road where we got out and hiked for about 45 minutes. The views were absolutely breathtaking! We were told that the entire loop would take 4-5 hours to hike, but we were not prepared for that. We were also told that about a half hour further than we went there were waterfalls. What we did see was breathtaking! We wished that we had tennis or hiking shoes, mosquito spray and sunscreen. The unpaved Road was muddy, but there was a small path right beside the road that was not muddy. Use the bathroom before you head out on the hike (a small fee). After we got back into the taxi, our driver took us to an overlook that was so amazing. There are horses available to rent and jeep tours (well above our price range but looked awesome).

We stayed in Salento over night to enjoy the city and in the morning we went to see the Valley. This place is beautiful, and I hope we would have more time to do some hiking, but we only had time to do an hour horseback riding. It was an awesome experience. We had a guide who was always with us to make sure we are ok with horse, as not one of us had any previous experience, he also took our pictures. Over all, I would comeback and spend more time in this panoramic place

The Cocora Valley at 2400-2500 m, is a sight from the paradise, especially with its very very tall palm trees which are the national trees of the country. They are called Palma de Cera meaning wax palms as they have resin inside.

These palm trees can live up to 80-90 years and can grow up to 60 meters. They fall down when they die.
The lighter their color, the younger they are. They grow at high altitudes.
Their fruit is edible by the cows.

A walk in this valley or a horse ride is recommended.

A must see if you’re in salento. We were feeling lazy and didn’t have any great shoes to do a hike so we went straight to the trees! When you’re Willy drops you off, go onto the main paved road and walk up the hill. Hikers will turn right, keep walking until it goes downhill. Keep going! And you’ll come to and entrance area where you have to pay 3,000 to enter. We walked for about 1.5 hours in total - we went to the top of the hills so high up to take some pictures of the views.

Very nice place, you may ride a horse or a jeep thru this fantastic land, once you go a little bit up on the road you will discover an unbelievable natural habitat for different plants and animals, a river , water falls, creeks, caves, etc. Pretty cool for a family trip.
Very good food at any of the local restaurant on site.
