There are two sides to swim on the island. The front side (where the boats drop you off) i think has better coral and sea creatures. We saw a shark which was great. The downside is that's the waves are a bit choppy and not suited to those who arent totally comfortable swimming, or for small children. The back side is much better for those children and others as the waves are not as choppy. I enjoyed this side more as I had a little kid with me and he really enjoyed it.
Paid around 30 usd / person for the boat to the island and the entry fee but I can say that it is really worth visiting the island. Is a really great place for snorkeling, the water is clean and you can see a lot of beautiful, colorful fishes. If you go a bit deeper and get lucky you can see sharks also, no worry there aren’t dangerous. Be prepared as there are no shops, toilets, changing rooms on the island. Most probably there will be lots of tourists, but even so the island is really enjoyable.
A short boat ride takes you to amazing snorkeling. They take care of your rental equipment and guide you to see sharks and turtles and colorful fish.
Only 15 min (speed) boat ride from Nilavelli Beach Hotel. We took the hotel’s boat even if we were not guests to the hotel. They leave you at the island and come back to pick you up when you want (national park calls hotel boatsmen and 15min later they are there).
Nice snorkling with kids! Loads of very different colourful fish. If you want to avoid big crowds: Go early: leave at 8.30 at the hotel so you are one of the first people there.
Recommend go here for beautiful snorkelling. Go early in the morning as it gets crowded throughout the day. About 2 hours on the island is plentiful.
A lot of beautiful fish, and a good chance to see turtles and harmless blacktip reef sharks. Stunning.
Protected coral reef area is very well marked with floating buoyances. Route for snorkel is easy to understand, just snorkel outside all the buoyances - and there is a lot to see.
We did not see turtles, but a one blacktip reef shark. Other people saw both turtles and shark. When booking boattrip, ask for a guide and price, it might help you find the best spots. But you can very well do without one, or maybe boat driver will do the guiding.
The beach is made of a lot coral stones etc which is a bit sharp, can recommend having slippers for walking on the beach. You can get in water without the need of shoes.
