Obligatory stop while visiting the Big Sur Coast! This funky bakery delivers with freshly baked goods and their sourdough bread is delish on the sandwiches. Nothing beats this bakery in Big Sur for pre-hike chow!

Two words. Bacon bow ties. Delectable croissants wrapped around maple glazed bacon. The rest of the menu is good too. Located right behind a shell gas station off of highway 1. We stopped here for lunch after having to turn around due to road closures. What a fortuitous stop. Since it was 1ish and in January, it wasn't very full but I understand that it gets pretty full for dinner and in the spring and summer. There are only 10 tables inside with 6-8 more outside on the patio. As it was lunchtime, we ordered from the lunch menu several sandwiches (chicken salad and turkey). But I really wanted to eat off of the dinner menu. It has offerings like steak with fingerling potatoes, roast chicken. Apparently the menu changes everyday but the way that they described the food made our mouths water. Alas it wasn't served until 5. The sandwiches for lunch were good though. The chicken salad sandwich was fantastic, served on a grilled, buttered sourdough. The bread overall at this place is amazing. I'm betting even Europeans who love their breads will like the bread here. The sandwich is served with chips but I asked to hold the chips and added some home fries which were top notch. I love that they were served with salt/peppered stir fried green onions. Great touch. The turkey sandwich was also good although the turkey was a little dry and I would have preferred that the bread be toasted as well. We also ordered the toasted sourdough with salt and butter and that was great as well. They had various other cakes and breads to order from the bakery and we tried a few of those as well. I regret not getting the cookies. The service was great as well and friendly. I long for the day that I can come back to Big Sur and it's beautiful trails and to hike all around them in order to build up an appetite big enough to eat here for dinner

Best service and pastries in Big Sur. We went for breakfast, and had a wood fired oven breakfast pizza and philly style eggs and hash. Everything from scratch with love. Don't pass by this gem in Big Sur. Amazing coffee and teas as well.

The coffee was great. The food was great. Service was friendly, fast, and helpful. The inside is warm and cozy. The outside looked very nice (it was raining when we were there so happy to sit inside).

Big Sur Bakery and Restaurant is just what the name says - a bakery/coffee shop during the day, and about 5ish p.m. it turns into a fine-dining establishment.
It's a very cozy place, wonderful on a cold day, or a rainy one as we had experienced. There is a gas station on the same location as well as lodging.
The bakery is on the pricey side, but it's to be expected, as it's one of the few places available in Big Sur to eat. There is a wide variety of loose leaf teas with free hot water refills and delicious baked goods.
They also offer food items to go, such as granola and preserves, etc. There is a wood burning fireplace in the dining room which gives it a very rustic cozy feeling. The staff was friendly and courteous.
