I initially wanted to book this property, but the owner said it wasn't available for the week I requested and instead offered the sister property, Casa Gaviota. Good communication throughout the booking process which I did directly with the owner. When we arrived, there was no one at the property to greet us. I walked to the office at Casa Caribe, but no one was there either. I walked back and we again knocked on the door and were surprised to find another group of people were in the property and said they had it booked through the next week. We were VERY frustrated! I walked back to the office again and fortunately caught two workers as they were leaving for the day...if I hadn't caught them, I am afraid we wouldn't have gotten the keys that day! They spoke little english, but were very nice and were were able to figure out that we were booked for Casa Colibri instead of the agreed upon Casa Gaviota. This whole process took almost two hours of walking back and forth trying to get a place to stay....pretty much ruined out first evening of vacation. No one walked us through the house, no one greeted us, were were left alone to figure things out for ourselves. We spent a great mount of time trying to find extra towels, trash bags and other things that could have been clarified had someone walked us through upon arrival. The guide folder was very informational, but we struggled with quite a few things that needed clarification.
The house was very clean and well appointed. There are a few design flaws I would change...especially with the shallow bathroom sinks and the small, single well kitchen sink. Otherwise the house was very comfortable. Air conditioning was great, good water pressure, all the kitchen supplies we needed. I dropped the blender vessel while doing dishes one evening and had to purchase a whole new blender as a replacement vessel wasn't available at the local store.
Throughout the week, we had drinking water delivered in a timely manner. The hot water quit working one day and a repairman came fairly quickly to fix the problem. A pool cleaner came one day to clean the dip pool. We didn't use the pool as the water was very cool...it doesn't get much sunshine to warm it up as it is surrounded by fairly high walls. Beds were fairly comfortable, the washing machine and dryer worked well, and the gas stove was great to cook on. The neighborhood was just a bit of a walk to the beach and we felt very safe as always in this lovely town.
We expected someone to come by the house on our checkout day to collect keys and send us off, but again as when we arrived, no one came by. We left the house when our shuttle arrived and left the keys in the house.
All in all it was a nice place to stay, but I rate it 3 stars for the lack of presence of staff when we arrived and when we left and for a few design flaws that would have made things more comfortable. We'll likely return to Puerto Morelos, but will not likely stay at this property again.
