Review of Acamaya Reef
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Feb 2018via mobile
This has to be the worst place I have ever stayed, our cabana/shed was awful it was filthy and quite frankly a health hazard.
It promises the world and provides nothing, I was expecting a beautiful cabana on the beach I got a concrete box in the car park.
The fridge was filthy and next to the toilet.
This place needs closing down.

We arrived at 5:30, the first thing I saw was a dump truck size pile of garbage beside the driveway, next we were informed the restaurant and bar were closed, then when I offered my visa the "manager" insisted I pay cash. The place in general looked run down and dirty, not at all like the photographs.
Needless to say we turned around and left.

Great place if you're not a fan of the big resorts, but still want to enjoy the beautiful beach. We stayed there in pur RV, it's a very convenient location to spend time in Puerto Morelos. It's about 35 minutes walk to the center, easy yo bike and plenty of cabs . Nice people, make sure you get a massage!

The only flight I could book for my wife and I arrived late to Cancun so I wanted a place close by where we could enjoy the beach in the morning before heading out to tulum the next day.

This place was perfect - the beach is great, the kitchen makes good food (though there are cheaper options in downtown PM) and the rooms, while quite spartan, are well kept and functional.

It's a bit remote in that it's about a 40 minute walk on the beach to the main town (or a 200peso taxi ride). Also the wifi is temperamental.

But the staff is friendly and the food is good. I highly recommend this place for traveler looking for a good budget experience near an awesome beach.

For under $70 I found this piece of Heaven in Cancún. If you want the local experience and true tropical feeling, then book this! One of the oldest and locally/personally owned resorts in Cancun (45 years old). My personal cabana had an amazing view and felt so safe. the local kids taught me how to climb a palm tree, get a coconut and cut it correctly to drink from. I could walk the beach and actually see stars that other resort lights normally blur out. I never was told I couldn't venture wherever I wanted. BAD NEWS: they close before Fall 2018, so book nowwwwwwww!!!!!!
Travel solo or with a significant other or family. It fits all.

This place is a shambles. The room was a patched together mish mash,, the bathroom sink was coming out of the wall, there were large cracks/openings to the outside which let the mosquitos in (no bed nets for protection) and ants crawling all over the floor.
The room I booked was advertised as facing the beach and although that is technically correct, with other cabins in front of us, all we could see through our small window was the wall of the next cabin.
I booked online and gave a credit card to hold the room but was told I would not be charged until I got there. After inspecting the room, I did not want to stay, but sure enough, my card was charged so I stayed, although I never did meet the owner.
After spending time at other beaches all over the Yucatan I can say this was the dirtiest water I have seen and with all-inclusives to either side, the charm was distinctly lack luster. I could forgive the owner for these things if the cabins were priced accordingly but I expected more for the prices being asked.
The reasons it gets 2 stars rather than 1 is because the hot water was good, it had decent working air conditioning.and the room was clean otherwise there are better options
