Although it is sometimes very busy over summer there is plenty of room to share with all the people that use the park.
Personally I run with the Lysterfield Trail Runners every week at Lysterfield, and my wife likes to ride the Mountain Bike paths with the kids. After a trail run with mates we usually jump in to cool off in the lake, no better way to start the day!
There are loads of park benches to settle in for a picnic, and also BBQ's which are free to use. There are also two public toilets and a cafe which serves light meals, ice creams, coffees etc. Being an adventure park for runners and bikers it also contains an abundance of local wildlife, birds and kangaroos are everywhere, so important to note that no dogs are allowed into the park at any time.
Don't get much for free these days, this is a fantastic park located in South East Melbourne and we are lucky to have it close by to visit each week.

I personally don't like swimming in the water as I think it is dirty. It is a great place to have a picnic or BBQ and just chill with friends. There are heaps of car parks, but you need to watch the opening hours. Bring a rug and pull up a grass spot.

Fantastic bush setting for recreation. It's a popular place teeming with people but there is plenty of space for swimming, bbqs, bushwalking and bike riding. You are guaranteed to see wildlife up close.

Took my grandchildren swimming here for the first time. Great spot, heaps of picnic tables, barbecues, toilets and cafe. The shade is quite a way from the waters edge so if the children are young and need constant supervision bring sunshade. There are no bins so rubbish needs to be taken home.

If you're into mountain biking, you'll want to visit this place.
It hosted the Commonwealth games event several years ago and you can still ride the course - its a little weathered these days, but you'll get an appreciation of the fitness level required.
There's something for everyone here.
If you're a beginner, there's plenty of easy tracks to practice on right up to expert level.
Good place to visit with a few mates.
I like to ride from the main car park to the top of the hill at the Churchill park end, admire the view and catch my breath, then pick another way back.
