“Great trip all round.”
Reviewed 21 August 2015 for a stay in June 2015

From start to finish, the service was excellent. From the initial information pack, to the help and information we received upon our arrival. We were really made to feel welcome.
The beautifully renovated property is in a very secluded area, so a car is a must. However, this doesn't detract from the fantastic location, fabulous views etc. There are small villages dotted around the area and certainly one really good restaurant a short drive away.
If there was anything slightly negative to say, it would be the condition of the local roads, they're poor to say the least. So my advice there is, don't use your own car to drive there, fly there and rent a car. This is only a minor point though, and it didn't take anything away from a thoroughly enjoyable stay.

“Idyllic location for a peaceful getaway”
Reviewed 12 October 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We stayed in La Stalla which is a beautifully renovated building at the edge of the vineyard. The views down the valley are breath-taking. The winding roads once you leave Toano are a driving joy but may not suit all travellers. The direction received in the advance pack are precise and ensure you find this unique property.
I cannot rate this place highly enough.
We were the only people renting any of the three properties on the site so the peace and quiet were unexpected but just what we needed. It may be different with others sharing the three properties but the private terrace overlooking the vineyard ensures your seclusion if required.
The welcome pack and indeed the personal welcome and detailed information of all the surrounding areas add to the total experience.
Excellent.

“Stunning! We have run out of superlatives.”

What a wonderful time we had at La Stalla! From the very beginning Polly's directions from Bologna were fantastic and her pre-holiday communication was clear and very friendly.
The house is comprehensively equipped with every thing you could possibly need and absolutely spotless. The décor is tasteful and we particularly loved the little Thai bathtub.
Have a little 'starter' hamper is a great touch.
The views from the house are absolutely spectacular and we loved waking up to the sun over the mountains.
The area is an undiscovered gem, full of fascinating castellos and villages not to mention the best food in Italy! Also, unlike next door Tuscany there are virtually no tourists even in high season. We visited beautiful Parma, Modena and Reggio Emilia and had them practically to ourselves. I cannot recommend La Stalla or Polly highly enough, my only fear is that if everyone finds out about it we won't be able to fit our booking in! Thank you so much for a lovely holiday!

“FABULOUS!! 10/10!!! LOVED IT!!!”
Reviewed 14 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

My husband and I spent a week here in early Italy and, WOW, what an amazing place!!

The house is delightful, spotlessly clean with everything you need (including a washing machine - not that I had any intention of doing laundry on my holiday!) and it was extremely comfortable and nicely decorated. The shared pool is only 10 feet from the door of the villa and it catches the sun all day, with wonderful views of vineyards, trees and rolling hills. Cooling off in the outdoor shower and/or pool was a total necessity in the heat that we experienced during our visit - brilliant!

Polly, the property manager, was very welcoming and helpful. She gave us some great tips about where to eat and the best places to shop - Toano and Quara are only a short drive away and both have everything you will need, including copious amounts of the local tipple, Lambrusco frizzante!.

The locals, though clearly not used to many tourists (it is, after all, a rural farming area with rolling hills, winding roads and FANTASTIC scenery) were very welcoming. Not many spoke more than a couple of words of English but with my couple of words of Italian and lots of hand gesticulation and shoulder shrugging (very Italian!), we managed to communicate and they were all very helpful and friendly. We even got some locally made Parmigiano Reggiano which is delicious and a great holiday souvenir - don't forget to get some from Quara! We did some walking, paddling in the river, a bit of sightseeing and eating out but really it was just a week of R&R, and what a perfect place for it!

The added bonus was that the sun shone for the entire week - we couldn't have asked for more!

I would most definitely recommend a visit to Villa Bonicelli - a beautiful oasis of peace and tranquility in the Italian countryside, and we're definitely planning on returning very soon!

A beautiful conversion of an archetypal Italian farm building, we fell in love as soon as we arrived. Polly, the property manager, was there to greet us (even though we were a little late arriving) and had prepared a welcome pack with all the basics we needed until we could get to the shops, and a bottle of wine to sooth the aches of the journey! She was warm, friendly and helped us massively with her extensive local knowledge and fluent Italian. The property was immaculately clean and extremely well appointed and the views from the terrace across the valley are stunning. We spent the majority of our 5 nights there just enjoying being in such a beautiful place - it is a tremendous spot for doing very little! When we did venture out the local people were extraordinarily friendly (although having some basic Italian is a big help) with ample shops and restaurants within a 30 min drive. Don't expect extensive menus and silver service, do expect real home-cooking, local wine and genuine warmth. The area is dotted with some wonderful, moderate to easy walking with some more challenging routes available also. Many routes start/finish at cafes or restaurants, which is an added incentive! About 10 minutes drive from the property is a parmesan cheese 'factory' which provided us with gifts for friends and family and enough delicious cheese to keep us going till Christmas! We would whole-heartedly recommend this property to friends and family looking to experience rural Italy and undertake some deep relaxation. My only reservations are that the short (10m) path from the driveway is very steep and, although we were travelling with our 6 month old baby and had no issues, it would not be suitably for anyone with limited mobility. Also, if you're over 6 feet you may find the bed a bit short. All in all, a wonderful place to unwind and one which we will certainly be going back to.
