Visiting our Norwegian Service Centre the Bomlo Hotel is just across the street. Normally we stay further afield but for this visit stayed at the Hotel. There is very little [alright on National Day holiday no] choice for dinner elsewhere in Rubbestadneset and the hotel itself is basic but clean and quiet.
Expectations are not set high but both the night's dinner and the following morning's breakfast were both of good quality and marked out for the level of service and attention from the table staff.
A colleague and I enjoyed the fish soup for starters; creamier and less pronounced than it's french cousin but none the worse for that.
A mixed medley of mains ensued; Seafood Symphony [white fish, molluscs and shellfish cooked en papillote], Fillet steak and Roast Pork. My choice [the latter] was probably the weakest and had something of a pre-assembled affair about it but was pleasant enough whereas my colleagues choices appeared freshly cooked and the fish choice was voted highly.
A crisp Spanish white wine complemented the mains.
I was the only one who ventured forth into Dessert territory but was happy that my choice of Apple Cake, fruit compote and ice cream pulled my overall score back in line. We discounted the comments from our sole female companion as two scoops of ice cream is never going to push the culinary frontiers.
All in all pleasantly surprised and pleased at the evening's conclusion; especially as their monopoly could encourage a less attentive result.
The Breakfast spread was extensive and the warm fresh loaves were most welcome.
So, in summary, don't waste your time searching for other restaurants locally and stick with the "1 of 1" status on TA and balance your expectations and you will not be disappointed.
