To celebrate a special anniversary we spent a little more than usual on our holiday - two weeks in the Serenity villa with our son, his partner, our daughter, her husband and three-month old grandson. This proved to be the perfect place for all of us. The villa has real charm with its typical Maltese arches and cool stonework but had everything we needed for an easy holiday. The temperature was close to 40 on the day we arrived so the pool was welcome but even when sunbathing on the roof terrace you can take a cooling dip in the Jacuzzi up there too. Likewise the upstairs kitchen fridge is very handy when you're too lazy to go down the two flights for a cold drink! The main kitchen downstairs was on the small side to cater for 6 adults but perfectly adequate and we managed. The barbecue on the roof terrace was a welcome addition and it is a lovely place to eat, in the shade of the pergola, with great views. The beds were comfortable, the bedrooms are generously sized and all air-conditioned as is the living space downstairs. The washing machine got plenty of use as we had the baby with us but even he was able to make use of the pool area as there was always a shady corner for him. Just make sure you pack anti-mosquito spray as there were a lot of biters!
Joe, the owner, couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming and both he and Marion, the lovely rep, recommended lots of places to eat and sites to see which proved to be fantastic.
The location couldn't be better, close to the inland sea (nowhere is far from the sea on this island as it is only about 8 x 4 miles) but also close to Victoria. Shops and restaurants are close by, within walking distance as is a lovely craft village where you can see the artists painting, metalworking, glass-blowing and making their own leather goods - fab for presents.
I can't praise this place enough, this really was the special holiday we had hoped for and the villa, as well as the friendly welcome, made it.
We stayed here in July and had a wonderful holiday. The house is homely and well equipped and as the pool area is within the high walled courtyard, it feels very private. Yet the house is in a lovely village with local shops and restaurants and there is bus stop right outside for when you don't want to take the car. The property's owner is a true host and gentleman who not only welcomed us to the village feast fundraiser but also was on hand when we had a puncture. It is a comfortable 40 minute walk into the capital - and easy access to all of the islands sights. The narrow stairs to the roof terrace are inside and whilst narrow do have a handrail. Having the second kitchen part way up the stairs does make eating up there okay but we tended to eat in the downstairs pool area which was closer to the main kitchen. We are definitely planning of going back to this house again.
