We booked the San Andrea from 4th - 10th October as we wanted somewhere near the sea to snorkel, and we were not disappointed. We could walk straight out to the walkway along the side of the bay, where ladders at intervals led into the sea, and there was plenty of space to sit in the sun afterwards on the benches or rocks. There was shallow water just in front of the hotel, otherwise it was quite deep.
Our welcome was friendly, and the staff were all pleasant, helpful, and ready to give advice & information.
We found the hotel to be very clean, & the bed was really comfortable.
We didn't actually use the top floor terrace as we were out & about so much, except for the fridge up there for the use of guests, useful for cold drinks to take out.
Breakfast provided a good choice, and we enjoyed eating outside, and had a good meal there one evening.
Although we appreciated our balcony & sea view, it did mean that cooking smells from the numerous nearby restaurants drifted up there. Of course we ourselves made good use of them, and had good food & wine.
Check out the history of the nearby 'Churchill' restaurant, unlike most of the buildings in Xlendi, which are relatively modern. This means that the resort doesn't have quite the atmosphere of some places, but the bay itself is lovely.
We did notice that the area immediately around the hotel entrance was somewhat scruffy, with broken paving slabs, & litter around the adjacent mini-market, but once inside, all was in good order.
We chose to get around by bus rather than hiring a car, although the hotel would have arranged car hire for 18 euro per day. That way, we could drink some Gozo wine at our destination. The bus stop was very near, all buses go to Victoria,( interesting to visit), from where other routes radiate out. The fare was 2 euro, which lasts for 2 hours, so you can use the same ticket for the next bus. There are also travelcards.
The open top hop-on hop-off bus was good, but be aware that some of the places you might wish to visit when you use it have closing times; e.g. the Ggantija temples is worth at least an hour's visit, but last admission is 4.30 p.m.
As for snorkelling, we found the water to be clear, even though on our first day a storm had washed lots of debris into the bay so the water was brown! However, further along the side of the bay, and into the next little creek , it was clear, and there were quite a lot of varied fish. Strong winds meant that Dwejra, although spectacular, was not good for snorkelling then, but on the South coast, Hondoq, & Mgarr-Ix Xini were in the lee, with lots to see. If you have good walking shoes & are OK with steep rocky paths, there is a lovely walk from Mgarr -Ix Xini along the coast towards Mgarr, with quiet snorkelling spots along the way. Before reaching Mgarr, if you strike up towards the fort & walk alongside it, you come out to the road to Victoria, just near a bus stop.
Once in Victoria, we liked the San Gorg square, away from traffic, a good place to relax in a cafe.
There is lots & lots of interest in Gozo, & we found the San Andrea to be a comfortable, friendly base.

I am here now for the second time because I like this hotel very much. It is a small hotel lokated right on the promenade of Xlendi Bay and I always book a room with a view down to the bay. That is amazing view at sunset. The rooms are quite small. In the hotel is a restaurant named Zafiro where you can eat very great meals

Room Tip: Room with seaview

Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights on a mini break. Breakfasts were amazing, with options of cereals, continental, cooked, fruit. Hot drinks are via a drinks machine but very nice. Staff are very helpful and attentive and you couldn't be nearer the bay without swimming trunks. Bedroom was simple but everything you could want, safe in wardrobe, hair dryer, kettle etc and the biggest bed I've ever had. Roof terrace on floor 5 is open to all guests and has stunning views and sun chairs etc. Would definitely stay at the hotel again.

Room Tip: Bay view rooms are snapped up, side rooms look out on dive school so can be a bit noisy in the mornings, with the clang of dive bottles.

The hotel's staff and owner are really nice which makes the stay ten times better. Very Clean. The view was wonderful as well and I am sure that next time I come to visit Gozo, I will stay at this hotel.

San Andrea Hotel is very comfortable and is located right on the promenade of Xlendi Bay. The view from a sea view room is magnificent at sunset. All restaurants are close by and lots of variety. The local buses are just at the back of the hotel.

Room Tip: Sea view room has a great view of Xlendi Bay
