“Pretty cottage in quiet village location”
Reviewed 6 September 2017 for a stay in August 2017

We spent 5 days at Heather Cottage. The location is remote. No amenities in the village. Tavistock with supermarkets is a 15 min drive.

The cottage was clean and modern whilst maintaining it's rustic charm. We travelled with a 7 year old. The location of the garden wasn't great with a child but we did use the summer house to play board games. The retro board games were a high light of the holiday and meant that we didn't have to turn the TV on in the evening to entertain ourselves. Favourites from our childhoods were an excellent find!

Most tourist attractions are on the other side of Dartmoor. In retrospect the location of the cottage wasn't ideal for us but that's our fault for not doing our research! Walks are in abundance for those without children to entertain.

The neighbours were very friendly offering useful information when it came to bin collection days following a bank holiday. The refuse collections are fortnightly at the cottage, if you are on the wrong week then expect to have to put the previous guest's rubbish out for collection, as well as your own.

The cottage could benefit from a BBQ in summer months. As we live in a flat without a private garden, we like to cook and eat outside as much as possible when on holiday.

All in all, an excellent standard of accommodation. Well equipped kitchen. Log burner for winter months. Cosy and rustic where it needed to be but likewise modern and convenient where required also.

“Picture postcard cottage in beautiful location - excellent value!”
Reviewed 21 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Heather Cottage is a sympathetically renovated Victorian cottage on the western edge of the Dartmoor National Park which retains many period features such as original doors and a bedroom fireplace. There are many local attractions. St Michael de Rupe church atop an extinct 1100 ft volcano 1 mile away is well worth the walk. We particularly enjoyed walking around the beautiful Lydford gorge with its 100 ft waterfall and Devil’s Cauldron.
Although there were one or two hiccups such as toaster and oven not working, the attitude of the owners couldn’t have been more helpful. The toaster was replaced immediately and the oven repaired. Highly recommended!
