We had a lovely room, although a bit small. Enjoyed using the leisure facilities. Dinner was good but they forgot about us and we ended up waiting an hour for dinner, were compensated with a free bottle of wine and discount on bill.
Would stay there again

i booked this hotel on late rooms, and paid a pittance, but that shouldn't mean that the walls are so thin that every time anyone on the floor opens a door you can hear it in your own room.
My single room was tiny, like a uni hall room, single bed in an alcove, very very basic, stain on the linen etc.
When i booked the hotel i saw a country house yet my room was in an outbuilding that was only 2 stories high. I felt very vulnerable coming back to my room late at night as it is not very well lit. it is also miles and miles outside of central Southampton.
Could not have disliked this hotel any more!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Dear traveller

Clearly I am disappointed to see such an extreme response on trip advisor, we do encourage our guests to view our website and read the description of our venue on third party websites such as Late Rooms, where we believe we give an honest description. We do state very clearly there are no bedrooms in our manor house. Below is the description from Late rooms from their website:
“Spread over a number of interesting buildings, New Place offers 108 modern en-suite bedrooms in 4 mews style terraces located a short distance from the Manor House with its impressive facade. All rooms feature free high speed internet access, LCD TV with Sky Channels, direct dial telephones and Tea & Coffee making facilities”

The single rooms are single rooms with single beds and are priced as such at a fixed price which our guest find great value, as generally they are the first to sell. Also as part of our single lady traveller policy we would recommend these rooms because of the additional security of the two locked doors leading to the staircase either side of the well lit corridor to the first floor rooms. I am sorry that you did not find this so. I would agree we are miles out side of Southampton which also is shown in miles on the Late Rooms web site. I am truly sorry our venue did not meet your expectations, it is never our intention to cause such a response in any of our guests.
Kind Regards

Mark

We stayed one night while visiting friends in the area. Rooms are in mews blocks adjacent to the main buildings and are nicely furnished with en suite faciities. There is a pool and gym in an adjacent building, with a jacuzzi and sauna, free to guests, that we enjoyed using. The restaurant is in the main building. We ate elsewhere in the evening but took breakfast there the following morning. We were quite late going in to breakfast, although still well within the advertised serving times. The staff were very helpful and we had our eggs cooked exactly as we liked them, but towards the end of our meal they kept popping in to see if we had finished, and we got the impression we were delaying them from clearing the room so it could be readied for the next service. Having said that, it was still a very enjoyable stay and up to the standards that we've enjoyed previously at another De Vere venue.

We have just returned from a short break at New Place where we went for an end of week unwind, something we do frequently, but never before at this De Vere 'hotel'. We were disappointed as though the surroundings give the impression of a country hotel the experience did not match. The rooms are in the grounds set in rows like barracks facing each other and do not provide a sense of privacy or peace. The walls are very thin and I was even woken in the night by the occupant in the next room using the toilet and sounding as if they were in our room! The bed was the smallest double we have encountered and although the mattress topper afforded some comfort, this did not alleviate the sinking in the middle and twanging springs every time you turned over. Needless to say a good night’s sleep was not possible.
Unfortunately for us we also arrived at the ‘Leisure Centre’ to find swimming lessons with young children happening in half of the pool, however the children and adults waiting were either using the other half, running around or occupying the only two loungers and two seats available. We were sat in the small sauna feeling like we were exhibits in a zoo as young children stared through the window finding us a source of entertainment! The changing rooms were also unisex booths filled with noisy children and adults. Needless to say this was not the relaxing end of week experience we had expected, but appreciate this was unfortunate timing. In addition to this the ‘towels’ for the ‘Leisure centre’ were to be found in the wardrobe of our room, which were not made aware of, and they had seen better days, very thin, small. and like sandpaper.
The main dining room was lovely and the standard of the food was good, there was a varied menu to choose from and although some of the food we chose did lack flavour and had an excessive use of salt, the Bakewell tart was the best we have ever tasted, it was overall a lovely experience. The staff were stretched due to a party in another room but to us they were attentive and friendly. It is a shame there was not a nice relaxing bar to retreat to, as the bar had a large TV loudly blaring away whilst people raised their voices to talk over it. As with many hotels, wedding parties are prevalent during weekend breaks and it is difficult to find a quiet weekend retreat, however these guests too would expect a hotel experience. We now understand this is not a hotel, but corporate events do usually finish on Friday and maybe the management should realise that if they also wish to advertise for people to take weekend breaks then it needs to metamorphose at weekends.

Dear traveller

I am sorry that we did not meet your expectations, we market ourselves as a venue and highly recommend guest to view our website in advance, where I believe we try to give a very honest description of our venue and its layout, and offer great value breaks for all guests.
I am sorry that there was a swimming lesson on during the time you chose to use the leisure facility and how this made you feel. We do run swimming classes for children from our local community, generally our team notify our guests of this and the finish time so that the can visit the leisure facility out side of this time if they wish, I really am sorry if this was not offered.
I am pleased that the Bakewell tart was well received and you found our staff both attentive and friendly whilst busy, in our lovely dining room. The bar can get very busy I am sorry if it was not made clear but we do have two complimentary coffee lounges in the manor house, where you are welcome to take drinks from the bar, that you may have found quieter. I will ensure our restaurant team are refreshed on offering these as an alternative to the bar, especially at weekends when we are so popular.
Thank you for your constructive feedback on Tripadvisor.

Kind regards

Mark

We stayed here with our two little girls mid Februrary - paid £49 for the room inlcuding breakfast and after reading some of the reviews, we were pleasantly surprised!. Very impressive arriving here with the imposing main house set amongst extensive grounds. The old house features oak pannelling and carved wooden staircases which give the feel that it was once perhaps a hunting lodge. The main house features the bar, many conference rooms and dining room with its amazingly huge fireplace and is a very a pleasant place to have breakfast and dinner. The buffet breakfast featured a variety of hot, cold, healthy and hearty choices and the sausages were our particular favourite! The reception and informal lounge with internet and free refreshments and newspapers is located in the adjoinng modern building, as is the leisure complex. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, albeit showing some subtle signs of some wear and tear, but overall was more than satisfactory and well equipped.. The large flat screen TV is built into the wall and gave the room a very contemporary feel. The staff were professional and always friendly and obliging - nothing was too much trouble. The pool complex with sauna and jacuzzi were clean and modern and the changing rooms were immaculately clean. We had a lovely stay here and made the most of everything on offer. We would recommend the New Place without hesitation.
