Although it's a long trip from Bangkok airport to Ko Chang by minivan (about 5 to 6 hours depending on the ferry), but worth every minute! Relax and enjoy the drive up to Maple Cottage, because Ko Chang is breath taking: beautiful nature, easy access, super food and off course the friendly thais people. After more than 24 travel hours, we stepped into the oase of Baan Talay Tai where Maple Cottage is located. We're a couple with one child and this place was perfect for us. The bedrooms are big and comfy, the living has everything you need. We loved the outside space, for breakfast or games. The landlady Jum had arranged our minivan from and to the airport, but she did so much more! From a car to the cooking gas; every little thing we needed she managed in no time. Besides that, she's a wonderful, friendly and lovely lady! We felt so welcome in her house, thank you Jum and your staff!
So rent a car and step in and out the tourist places on the west-coast. Order some food if you want to stay home or drive up to one of the many places to eat around the corner. Have your swim in the community pool or take a dive in the sea 5 minutes away from the cottage. Go visit all the beaches on the other side of the island, but come home in a quiet and lovely cottage on the east-side. We loved it and didn't want to go home!
We were actually upgraded to Sunflower Cottage in the same complex, so this review is for Sunflower cottage.
The cottages are near the Koh Chang ferry (5 mins drive) but on the quieter side of the island. The beach was less than a minutes walk and was deserted. The ocean warm and clean with beautiful views all around. Canoes were available to use free and the kids enjoyed this as well as the small community pool which we had to ourselves most times. The cottage was clean and spacious with nice outdoor area to sit and eat or look at the stars. Bruce arranged our collection from Bangkok airport in a minivan and our return, it was so easy. Jum was so helpful to us in helping with the local area and renting motorobike and car. You need a car/motorbike to get around, taxis are quite expensive. We had an amazing snorkelling trip and visit to the elephant sanctuary. A wonderful unforgettable holiday.
