This small bar has good tapas and really good value for money sherries. Well frequented by the locals just away from main square

This is only very small with limited seating so get there early (or late). There is no kitchen as such so there are not many warm tapas on the menu, sometimes tortilla at the weekend and huge meatballs in a tasty sauce. Good options are smoked sardines and anchovies served on crisp bread. The sherries are lovely. It mostly spills into the street, good atmosphere.

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of some of the eating areas. Our server recommended the mountain cheese - lovely. The foie gras was smooth and creamy and the peppers stuffed with cheese and PX delightful. Speedy service. Sherry for 1 euro. Lots of locals. Great price. A great place to stop for a cheap light lunch/afternoon snack.

Tabanco Plateros is dead. Long live Tabanco Plateros!

A new location for an old favourite. The new venue is much the same as the old one with all the same charm, warmth and simple elegance. The new menu has all of the classics that have made it so great over the last five years plus some really interesting new additions such as anchovies from Cantabria, tinned preserves from Portugal and newly sourced signature local wines.

As always our favourite meeting place manages to be faithful to the tradition of the tabancos Jerezanos while remaining open to new ideas for what a local bar should be and what its customers might enjoy.

In the end what makes this place great and what will continue to draw people to it, no matter where it is located, are the people who run it. Jaime, Luz, Marina, David, Antonio, Ezekiel et al. They are the the reason we love it.

This is the heart of Jerez.

We first went here about a year ago and returned with friends on a pleasant October lunchtime. Everything was as we remembered, possibly better.

We worked our way through the sherries, at €1 a glass it would be rude not to. All of us had different favourites, even those who thought they didn't like sherry. I love the PX, like liquid Christmas cake! The selection of tapas is pretty good with the sherries too, especially the mountain cheese and the pork. A special mention, however, for the complimentary olives - we couldn't get enough of them and got through at least three dishes. The barman even told us where we could get them. Staff were friendly and helpful even when it gets busy.

Just sitting at one of their high tables in the sunshine, enjoying the food and drink as you watch the world go by, is my idea of how to spend a lunchtime. This place is nothing fancy, but it hits the spot every time.
