“Very Nice, with an Impressive Breakfast Buffet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2011

We were here for four nights in late July and rate this facility as the best of several we visited during our two-week trip to Scandinavia.

The hotel itself is in a very quiet rural area on the shore. Our room was in a newer annex up the hill from the historic, picturesque old main building. It was modern, spacious, clean and well-maintained.

It's a non-smoking facility, but without air-conditioning. We opened windows on warm evenings and even though we were on the third floor got occasional whiffs of smoke from the puffers just outside the front door.

The breakfast buffet was an impressive array of hot dishes, cold meats and cheeses, breads, pastries and more. Breakfast usually held us until dinnertime when we invariably found ourselves "out and about" so I can't offer input on the hotel's other restaurant offerings.

Free parking was ample. Public transportation in the immediate area was non-existent.

Our Denmark visit was probably a once in a lifetime trip, but if we return, we'll definitely stay at Hotel Koldingfjord again.

We spent 5 days (2 parents and a child aged 6) and had a great time.
Everything was arranged perfectly. Setting of the hotel is great. Rooms (we had a family room in the main building). We did not even mind 50 min drive to Legoland everyday. Well the only complaint we have is the weather ... but the hotel cannot be blamed for this.

With a picturesque fjord on one side and beautiful green forests on the other, this hotel is romantic, peaceful, beautiful – all in all, the perfect place for a stay. The hotel lies a bit on an uphill with a beautiful drive up through small winding roads. The building itself is extremely charming with a 100 year old history and owned by the then nurses' union. We got our rooms in the annex to the main building, which was also rustic and cozy. The rooms are big and done in a monochrome of whites that feel very soothing. There are big windows allowing ample of natural day light. There were Bang and Olufsen TV and Arne Jacobsen lampshades that spoke of good taste and quality of the interiors. The beds were comfortable and bathrooms were big and clean, supplied with hairdryer and organic toiletries. We were told that the hotel has a swimming pool, sauna and steam that we unfortunately did not get to use due to time crunch. The proximity of the hotel to the fjord and the forrest makes it an ideal place for runners and at the same time for relaxation. There is a boat docking area right in front of the hotel, owned by the hotel, where private boats can be moored. Therefore, it is also ideal for people on a sailing vacation.

We had a lavish dinner at the restaurant that included a three course menu decided by the chef. Every single dish paired with the perfect wine was exquisite and prepared to perfection. Each ingredient used in the dishes were well thought of in terms of taste, texture, color, smell and aesthetics. This was definitely one of my best culinary experiences!!! The view of the fjord from the restaurant is breathtaking and that adds up to the pleasure of eating delicious food and drinking some very well paired wines. The staff is very friendly and they know what they are doing. The breakfast next day was also excellent. With a large spread, there were n number of fresh baked breads to choose from. There is a library with old collections courtesy of the days from when this hotel used to be a nursing home..

This hotel is not to be missed. For both business travelers and people on vacation, this is an ideal location with charming interiors, remarkable views of the fjord and one of the best culinary experiences. A must stay for sure!

Hotel Koldingfjord is definitely a great place to stay. We booked there because our LP guidebook was recommending it, and it was really a great choice. The building is big and resembles a manor house, with large hallways and likes. The library is particularly
impressive, don't forget to visit it.

The rooms are spacious and well-kept, with a modern design which we liked. There's also an iron set if you need to iron some shirts. Staff is very kind. Plus, WiFi is free. There's plenty of free parking outside.

We had dinner at the Café Luise (the most informal of the two restaurants inside the hotel). Price was reasonable and cheeseburger and steak were huge and tasty. Breakfast was good as well: the buffet included what seemed to be home-made yoghurt and sweet pudding. Also, there was gluten-free break (on request).

Location is great, charming and romantic, just beside the fjord, so you can just look at the water when reading a book, having a drink or a meal in the terrace. I would definitely recommend this place: it's not particularly cheap, but for one or two nights it's affordable.

Don't miss this hotel if you're in the Kolding area. It's also near to the Trapholt. It probably deserves a rating of four and a half, but I'll give that 5 for two reasons: a)the location is really very nice, as the public spaces are; b) the system forces me to give either 4 or 5 ;-)

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building (like ours was), it much more charming

I've stayed a few times in this lovely hotel. This is really old building which is nicely renovated to a good 4 star hotel. Rooms as such are not special compared with others but it is the surroundings which makes this a special place.

The hotel is next to special Danish "Fjord" - beautiful view on the water and is surrounded by nice natur, jogging trails right rom the hotel. The hotel also has a nice renovated pool and the very simple fittness center that does the job for basic exercise.

Restaurant serves excellent breakfast, dinner is a bit too modern cuisine with strange flavour combinations even if the service otherwise is good. They have nice library bar as well.

I was once upgraded to a big suite but i wouldnt pay the extra for that - excpet for the bacony the difference was only the size being a bit bigger.

The downside is that this is 5 km from the center of Kolding - if you arrive by car doesnt really matter. For me this is clearly #1 hotel in Kolding region and prices online is quite well in line with rest of the hotels
