“Second Stay here”
Reviewed 29 February 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We very much enjoyed our stay here last year (2015) and the location, barn, and facilities did not falter again this year.
The owner clearly took extreme pride in the barn and its facilities, however with the owners only living 30m away we felt this was its downfall - as we had an underlying feeling that the owner, Nigel, was overly possessive, that made us feel uncomfortable.

He came to 'maintain' the hot tub every morning during our stay for over an hour. With the hot tub being located just outside the master bedroom this made us feel quite uncomfortable.
He also insisted in maintaining the hot tub again at 7am on the Monday morning, when check out was at 10am anyway, which despite him saying it wouldn't, it disturbed us with the hissing of the water pipes as he re-filled the tub.
Considering check in time for the next guests was at 5pm he had all day to maintain it after we had left.
If I pay good money to rent a property for a weekend I expect to be left alone unless we approach with an issue.
The wi-fi did not work all weekend either. We werent that fussed as we came to escape for a weekend, but if it advertises it it should work!

Hi Tom
We were delighted when you chose to book with us again this year following a fantastic stay you enjoyed at the barn last year, thank you for the fabulous review you also gave us last time around. We are equally delighted that you found the barn to be immaculate & that the location & facilities did not falter again this year, we strive to provide a level of hospitality above & beyond the norm as all our previous 59 guests have confirmed with the excellent 5 star reviews they have given us on Trip Advisor. For future guests reading your review, we would like to confirm that we check with guests on arrival when we can check the hot tub water quality, it is absolutely essential from a due diligence perspective that we maintain the quality of the water at the highest level for all our guests & we usually check the quality during the day when guests are out for the day, if guests are not heading out then we don't disturb them unless we have agreed a mutually convenient time. We definitely do not come up to the barn & disturb guests early in the morning, the checks normally take 10 minutes maximum. Nigel did ask if we could do some extraordinary maintenance on the hot tub following your stay & we would like to thank you for allowing Nigel to do the necessary work on the hot tub on your check out morning. We advise guests it is best not to wear fake tan or overly heavy make up when using the hot tub as it can adversely affect the water quality, unfortunately, this happened during your stay & Nigel needed to change the water well before it was due to be changed, the hot tub takes at least 12 hours to reach the desired temperature & we had guests following you & we didn't want them to be without the hot tub for a few hours upon arrival, hence we asked you if we could start this process early on your departure day so it would be ready for those next guests, again, we really appreciated you allowing us to do this. Thank you for coming to stay & once again we are delighted you made the most of the facilities we provide. Best Regards....

“Fabulous accommodation ”
Reviewed 23 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We stayed here for the second time last week. It was such a lovely week away and the accommodation is perfect. Lynn and Nigel made us feel very welcome and we arrived to a chilli bubbling away in the slow cooker and a bottle of wine ready to be opened and enjoyed. The open plan kitchen/living area is perfect for relaxing and the kitchen has everything you could ever need in order to prepare meals. The hot tub was put to good use and again made the week the relaxing time we were hoping for. Lynn and Nigel gave us plenty of info on the surrounding area and there are plenty of walks to keep you active. Nothing was too much trouble and the home made cake we came back to was delicious and greatly appreciated. If you are looking for a relaxing time away then I can highly recommend this beautiful cottage! We'll be back!!!

“Beautiful accommodation and beautifully clean”
Reviewed 18 January 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We stopped here, Monday - Friday last week, following friends' visit last Autumn, who gave the property a glowing Trip Advisor review. For us, the big attractions were a further visit to explore an area of the Peak District unfamiliar to us, the hot tub and log fire and excellent-sounding self-catering accommodation, that was well-equipped and beautifully clean. What did we find? All of this - and so much more! The reviews you read on here are really true; we honestly cannot fault the cleanliness of the barn or all its facilities - such a well-equipped kitchen, cared for furniture and fixtures and fittings. The extra thought given by Lynn and Nigel, from the lovely cooked meal on our first night through to breakfast goodies (including eggs from the farm next door) and home-cooked cake on our last day, make them very special owners, indeed, totally intent on their guests have the best stay possible. We were very grateful, too, for Nigel's recommendations on various walks in the locality and places to find good food - we'd have done more exploring but the weather (snowy and cold and wet) precluded us venturing too far or for too long. Still, no grumbles from us as it gave us longer to enjoy the lovely hot tub and log fire!! We had a meal one evening at The Devonshire Arms at Hartington (one of Nigel's recommendations) and it was excellent. This really is special self-catering accommodation with heaps of added extras!!

“Another fantastic stay here”
Reviewed 6 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

Our favourite destination to unwind and recharge the batteries and once again we weren't disappointed.
We arrived on the 29th December to spend the New Year period and in all honesty we couldn't wait for Christmas to be over to be able to get there! (Sad but true)
Lynn & Nigel's usual attention to making sure your stay is special & fabulous was there - along with all the extras they do for you over the festive period. However, I have to say, having stayed at other times in the year it is no different how you are treated.
I have to admit that we NEVER leave the Barn!! We do know that the area is lovely but we don't live too far away - 2.5hrs - so have had days out/weekends all around the area before and enjoyed it immensely but the Barn, for us, is to totally unwind, relax and find calmness in our hectic life - which we always achieve.
Please believe all these lovely reviews they have, there is a reason they have them - THEY ARE TRUE - and book yourself a wonderful stay and you will find a way to return again!! Just pack a bag and go.
A meal with wine is ready upon arrival, fridge is stocked with basics - milk, butter, eggs , breakfast for a few days provided and the store cupboard/drawer has spices, foil/film, sauces, not to mention Nigel's homemade bread and jams - however, if you want you can get a supermarket delivery sent and they will put it all away for you. Me, I make a few extra meals over the weeks prior, freeze, take in a cool bag and then pop straight into the freezer on arrival when I get there and it is just a case of heating meals up - more time to relax in the hot tub!
Thank you Lynn & Nigel for all you do.
Already looking forward to trying to plan next visit!

“Excellent venue for our Christmas break”
Reviewed 31 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

Thank you so much Lynn and Nigel for making our Christmas so special. It was a real home from home and you had thought of everything...and more. The barn really is one of the nicest places we have stayed. It had everything we needed. The lovely meal waiting for us when we arrived was delicious, as were the mince pies, Christmas cake and wine. The barn was decorated for Christmas which made us feel festive and the presents you left for us were lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub after walking out in the beautiful countryside ...such a bonus. And the bed was one of the comfiest ever!
