So much to enjoy and soak in.. spend an afternoon away from the busyness of the city. Guide booklet very helpful.. highly recommended.

If you are a nature person you will love this place. You must be ready for a long walk when you visit this place. Wide varieties of roses, succulents, grasses and trees. You can also ride a cable car to enjoy the top view of the city.

The gardens are magnificent. I took the cable car to the top & then wandered around the gardens. The gardens are situated on the side & top of the hill so not good for those who cannot walk far. The beautiful rose garden is situated at the bottom of the gardens. Unfortunately they were not out when i visited. Lovely cafe at the Rose garden. You have to be reasonably fit to walk around all the gardens or take it slow. Entry free. Lovely views from the top of the gardens.

The Botanic Gardens are reached by a steep walk or a tram ride up to the top of the hill where the Observatory is to be found along with the Tram Exibition. It is good to take a one way ticket, enjoy the views over the city of Wellington at the top then stroll back down into the city. The different parts of the gardens which you will pass through will engage your senses, the trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, cacti etc look wonderful and in places smell wonderful too. There is an active garden area to delight children and the glasshouses and rose gardens around the fountain are not to be missed. The gardens are free but the price of the tram to the top is worth it.

We took the cable car up (single ticket only) and enjoyed the look out views of Wellington from the top. The Gardens are on the hill side and you stroll down them through the different gardens in a leisurely walk down. The rose garden is particularly good to see.
The stroll down ends at the Parliament buildings and more opportunities for pictures. Finish off with a drink or meal at the Custom Quayside.
