In Devon for a week and wanted to try a local pub for a dinner, We decided on trying The Rock as it only looked a few minutes drive away, well we looked on the google maps and that was what it looked like. If you are traveling south to find it you will miss the turn off, the roads approaching this are country lanes, one car wide for most of the journey, but if you coming from Croyde you will see the sign on the corner of the building, and squeeze in the narrow lane to the Pub, there is parking outside for quite a few cars, so that is not a issue. The Pub itself was full of diners, luckily we had booked a table. We started with the Fish plate for two, lots of different types of fish and bread to eat it with, the Wife had the Chicken pie and mash which see very much enjoyed, (you cant take the girl out of the east end) and I had the Ribs and chips. The ribs was huge and very saucy. Everyone was enjoying there meals as well. If you can find this place (use the Sat Nav Dan) you will enjoy a tasty meal in a good atmosphere with out the Beige pub food that most serve, and continue to serve. A recommended spot to eat in North Devon area.

Dined here 2nd September 2018. Out of our party of 8, with a starter and a main each, 2 starters were no good - mussels had water sitting in the bottom of the dish with loads of garlic that was raw. Prawns also watery in the bottom of the dish, prawns insipid and flavourless, again with raw garlic. Halloumi fries were very good, salt & pepper squid ok and duck with cucumber wrap good. Were told the main ribs were great with meat falling off the bone. Unfortunately not. Actually hard to carve the meat from the bone and the sauce was pretty much non-existent. Worst ribs I've seen. Beef burger and chirozo burger ok although accompanying chips were tasteless. Chicken curry with rice not good; tasted like a boil in the bag job that lacked all discernible traces of taste or flavour. Spaghetti with clams and prawns no good, also sitting in water again with raw garlic. So, quite a few very poor dishes. I personally never expect much from most pub meals but some of these dishes were £18 a pop, so not cheap. Very disappointing and would not repeat. A complaint was made and the first round of drinks (£30) was removed from the bill and we all accepted this as it was a birthday get together and no one wants a fuss to put a dampner on what should be a celebration. But considering of 16 dishes, 7 dishes were really not fit for purpose and the chips on 4 dishes were either cold or tasteless or both, that's a lot more than a £30 discount. The next evening we dined at the King's Arms also in Georgeham and it was an infinitely better meal for less money.

We always go to this pub when we are in this part of Devon. They are very welcoming and the food is great. Even our dog is welcomed and even though one of the waiters was on his first shift the service was good. Definitely one to be recommended.

Wow what a fab meal! We were recommended this pub by the Airbnb hosts, what an amazing place. The pub had a lovely friendly atmosphere with good beers and a great selection of gin!
We ordered our food and didn’t wait too long. My daughter had duck pancakes for starters these were a meal in themselves, we had mussels and prawns.
For main course we had fish pie, chicken enchiladas and tuna, absolutely amazing cannot fault anything service was efficient and waiter was friendly.
We will be going back

Thank Nicky H
