“Perfect getaway!”
Reviewed 29 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

A wonderful gite in a beautiful area of France. The gite was well equipped with everything you could possibly need for a home-from-home holiday. The pool was cleaned on a daily basis and there are children's play equipment in a safe grassed area near the pool. The village of Janaillat is very pretty village; the locals are very friendly and there are some great walks in the area. To top it the owners Jane and Bryan are most welcoming with lots of recommendations of places to eat and visit. If I could award 10 stars I would!

“Lovely stay in rural France!”
Reviewed 24 July 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Beautiful two weeks stay in rural France in a well equipped Gite. Bryan and Jane are always on hand and can't do enough to ensure you have a fantastic stay.

The pool was lovely and kept spotless, the gardens are also very well maintained.

We have visited most of France now and the Limousin area is one of our favourites. Can't wait to come again and hopefully look for our own holiday home.

“Nice place, but beware.”

We had rented for a reunion both gites (accomodate 10+12 people). They are actually nice accomodations, and the garden and pool are very well kept and beautiful.
However, be aware that Gite 1 (for 12 people) does not have a garden, and requires to go through the other house's garden to get to the pool. In gite 1, kitchen installation did seem to meet basic safety standards. Several of us experienced repetitive and fairly strong electric shocks while touching the dishwasher or kitchen sink. As a result we could only use one kitchen out of the 2 we had paid for.
Our main concern however was that, despite these shortcomings, our hosts were very keen on keeping a large part of the deposit. We are in full agreement to pay for things we did actually damaged (we took our hosts’ first word for that), but not to be charged unfairly and be accused of lying. I strongly recommend any future guest to spend all necessary time to : 1. perform an exhaustive incoming inventory visit of all pieces of silver and glassware, and 2. learn by heart the complete “terms and conditions”. The host approach, not being straightforward, always cross check what they tell (or don’t tell) you with what is written in the “terms and conditions”. They will claim that you had signed them at the time of booking (which in our case is an untrue statement, since this document was only provided 6 weeks after, when they had cashed in 30% of the rental fee and we had made all arrangements for the week end).
This guest-unfriendly approach (and the large sum they retained) rather spoilt an otherwise nice and hard earned week-end away. If one wishes to work in hospitality, a nice place is not sufficient, one needs the adequate mindset.
PS : if you plan on using the bbq, be ready to have an extra 20€ in cash, as they require this sum as an extra specific deposit!

Laurent (Review 2 of 2) This review is from the lead name….. I can only reiterate all the facts again…. The garden & pool area are shared, neither gîte as their own garden only their own private terrace area. The layout of the complex does mean that access to the garden from Gîte 1 (Wisteria Cottage) is via the front of the property and through a gate, this hasn’t proven a problem with any other guests over the last 7 years. All the furniture, appliances and equipment are all in a good state and are all perfectly safe. The cooker & dishwasher have been checked by a professional electrician, who couldn’t find any faults…. So maybe this was just a ploy for a reduction in the rental fee! Can I also say that all other kitchen facilities were used in full (fridge, freezer, microwave, all pots, pans etc.), so in fact both kitchens were used. The deduction for the broken items were for things you agreed to at checkout before you left (Bathroom Blind, Towel Rail, Stained Sheets). Both properties are fully equipped to cater for the capacity stated. Therefore I don’t feel it necessary to have an inventory as such, but I do know when the full quota of items are not there after checkout. We did ask you at checkout if any items were broken but you failed to mention them! I can only assume that you did not fully read our Terms & Conditions, as you would have known what was expected of you as a guest in our property, and if you were unsure then you should have asked for clarification. Can I just mention as well that you were only charged one caution fee for the two cottages that you booked, and you were even reluctant to pay this, and only did so after several emails and a referral to our T&C’s. A very small point…. The 20€ deposit for the BBQ is charged and refunded when the grill is returned to use cleaned! We have unfortunately had several guests leave without cleaning the grill, which is why we now charge the refundable deposit. Your friends that have also given us bad reviews mention the we didn’t have pool security, this is utter rubbish & is false. The pool was shown to you at check-in and the pool security was explained to you & your wife at this point. A declaration was even signed by yourself. I can only therefore assume that you failed to explain this to the rest of your party.

“A fantastic place to stay in a quiet part of France!”
Reviewed 10 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Have recently come back from a great 2 week stay in Gite 1, Meadow View Gites and I would recommend it to anyone considering a stay in this area of France. We initially booked it (and paid a small booking deposit) through Holiday France Direct which was painless but all communication after that and payments were direct with the owners Jane and Bryan which was helpful. I must say that Jane and Bryan were great and were on hand to help with anything throughout. We were a group of 9 (2 families but mostly of adult age) and there was plenty of room in the Gite with four bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 twin, and 1 other twin with a double sofa bed in it) all large, located on the edge of the village of the tiny village of Janaillat with a lovely view over the hills and fields (and cows). If you are looking for hustle and bustle, this area of France is not for you, but for peace and quiet and lots of walking etc. it's great, plus the (shared) pool was welcomed. Do get out and about though. WiFi in the Gite was included, as were towels and linen etc. (not pool towels). Note that there was a small extra charge for WiFi by the pool but we didn't feel the need. It's not the fastest WiFi either but you are in the middle of nowhere after all! Mobile signals are also patchy. All the expected facilities in the Gite were good although only one of the showers was a stand-up shower in a cubicle. An electric kettle would have been handy though! British Freeview TV was available. In short it was great!

Have just returned from an amazing week staying at Janaillat Meadowview gites. Although the drive was long it was worth it , we were welcomed by Jane and Bryan and nothing was too much trouble throughout our stay, the gites are more than adequate and we were provided with a welcome pack which was very useful. The weather was beautiful and our children of 5, 11 and 14 certainly enjoyed the pool , adults included. The gites location is stunning and although peaceful you are only 15mins from bourganeuf and 25mins from gueret, which have plenty of restaurants and things to do. I would definitely recommend the gites to anyone they are well equipped and very spacious.
