My wife and I needed comfort and relaxation and were not disappointed. The accommodation is spacious and the owner's eye for detail has ensured that nothing is wanting throughout.
The accommodation is a completely private wing of this Charentaise long house with its own private entrance and access to a large enclosed and beautiful front garden and enormous rear grounds which give a perfect place to unwind whilst enjoying the rows of lavender, herbs and flowers.
My mother and our 2 dogs joined us. We all enjoyed the charming and friendly and generous personalities of the owners who respected our privacy yet shared their personal warmth at the same time.
The location is great for cyclists of all different levels. I am a serious road cyclist and was not dissatisfied with the undulating and stunning countryside and my wife, far less enthusiastic about sitting on 2 wheels, found more than suitable local routes, too.
The proximity of famous towns such as Bordeaux and La Rochelle gave access to history and glamour as well as good shopping and good restaurants. Even the local towns such as Jonzac and Montendre had much to offer including Le Coq D'Or bar/restaurant outside of the town's chateau in Jonzac providing a good and atmospheric place to unwind on a hot Charentaise evening.
A wonderful holiday and we will be back.
My wife and I had the pleasure of staying with Nicole and David in October 2013. They were both excellent hosts and very helpful to us to organize places to visit and things to do during our stay.
The gite is part of the house and, as such, not remote. We had full access to the grounds, which are very large. The gite is well stocked with equipment and was more than sufficient for our holiday. There are two bedrooms; one was on-suite, the other bedroom was large and very close to an even larger bathroom. (This bathroom must be seem to believed)
The gite is situated in a quiet locality with very little traffic, or people passing by. It is one hour from the coast (Royan) and about one hour from the Bordeaux wine region. The city of Bordeaux is also about one hour away.
We can thoroughly recommend Le Bourg as a place to stay.
