Our family are very fond of Wales and were delighted with our stay at Afon Morfa. This enormous cottage was the perfect place for us to explore the Welsh countryside. It is set in acres of beautiful woodland and even has it's very own waterfall in the garden, not to mention being within walking distance of the beach! The cottage itself is equipped with everything you would need for a family holiday. My personal favourite was the log burner which made the evenings lovely and cosy.
Whilst staying at Afon Morfa we went on many walks, the walk up to the Blue Lagoon starting in Fairbourne and the Torrent walk starting in Brithdir were exceptional. We created so many happy memories here and can't wait to visit again!
Afon Morfa is the most idyllic family cottage, set in the hillside just far enough from the beach to be almost secluded and restful. The space in the cottage is perfect, with a magical feel about it all. The kitchen easily sat us all (4 of us) and 4 friends who came over for a weekend of our weeks stay. There was enough comfortable bedrooms for all of us, the bathrooms are clean and spacious, wonderful to have 2 en suites as well!
All well stocked with linen, kitchen equipment, books and games, washing machine & dryer too.
Our dog loved running around the garden & it's perfectly situated for excellent walks as well.
The pool was fantastic, also giving us a great BBQ area, and we caught the evening sun down there, enjoying a glass of wine before putting the children to bed and relaxing in the lounge (a shame we couldn't take advantage of the open fire this time!).
About a 20 minute walk to the beach, via lovely open areas, the dog was able to run around, the children enjoyed crabbing on the way, at the estuary, and after a wander across the bridge to Barmouth, we found some fab cafe's and pubs! A superb little cafe gave us the best cooked breakfast ever.
There really is everything you could possibly want here, rain or shine, and our children loved it so much that they want to move there. We will definitely be back again as soon as we can. We love it.
A beautifully presented, spacious house packed full of character. Our family absolutely loved our time at Afon Morfa and took full advantage of its excellent location. Country walks, beach activities such as crabbing and a welcome pint at The Last Inn are within walking distance.
Well equipped and with toasty heating, this winter get away was a delight and a real break for the family.
We'll definitely be booking again.
We had an amazing Week in July 2016 staying in the stunning location of Arthog. The property is beautiful and hidden away from the world which makes for a very relaxing stay. The cottage has more then enough space for a large family and the facilities are great. The garden and pool area make for a lovely place to relax or enjoy a BBQ without having to leave the property.
The local area is great to explore, we love going to the hidden blue lake, this is a great place for a picnic and a dip on a warm day. It's the remains of a old slate quarry and is a beautiful walk and well worth the sweat and muscle burn to get to the top. Barmouth is also a lovely place to visit and is only a short 30 minute walk over the old train bridge which in itself is a great way to spend some time, we did this most days. Barmouth has a lovely selection of shops and some very nice restaurants, well worth a visit. The beach is beautiful and a great space to relax on a sunny day.
We also used this as a base to climb Mount Snowdon which is a day trip away but well worth it the views are amazing and I enjoyed the challenge, it was around 7 hours to the top and back down. I believe the journey was around 1 1/2 hours each way. This wasn't a bad thing as the drive is very scenic.
I will definitely be revisiting Afon again this is a beautiful property and in the most beautiful and relaxing location, with many opportunities to test and challenge your wilderness and outdoor abilities. Great holiday.
