My family and I had been visiting the Dordogne Valley for many years, but this is our first time in Sainte-Mondane. The gite was quite comfortable with ample sleeping space for three adults and two children. The kitchen was well-equipped, and we enjoyed meals at the table just outside our unit. Unfortunately, because of damage incurred during a violent storm, we were without our sun umbrella to provide shade for the latter days of our stay. The location is central to many holiday activities such as river sports including swimming and canoeing as well within easy distance of the wonderful Chateau de Fenelon, after which our gite was named. The children also enjoyed the on site swimming pool and the swings. This was just what we had been looking for.
We stayed for a couple of weeks last year and the landlord tried to claim some of our deposit. There were no breakages and we left it cleaner than it was on arrival. Luckily we had asked the cleaner to confirm in writing she was happy with everything at exit. A warning to any prospective holidaymakers.
This is a shame because it is a pleasant enough gite and reasonably priced. Pleasant outside dining space and adqequate outside swimming pool. It is located in beautiful countryside (as is most of the Dordogne) and well placed for day trips. A car is needed to get to local amenities. On arrival, the kitchen was a little dirty and lots of insects buzzing about because the lamp had been left on and window left opened. But it is the deposit you should be more worried about.
