Need I say more. Try to book this cottage, if you can :)
Having stayed in Derryreel Cottage for three times and still being happy, this brief note should surpass my previous and very positive review.
Great value for money this house is just perfect. It sits right at the foot of the Muckish mountains and is a short driving distance into Dunfanaghy town. If you're a keen cyclist (mountain bikes), this place is heaven on earth. There are some of the best cycle trails I've ever seen with outstanding natural beauty right outside the house. I would highly recommend this house to anyone.
We have just returned from a one week stay at Derryreel Cottage in Dunfanaghy.
The Cottage exceed our expectations. We found the facility warm, spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. The owners met us in person and made us feel instantly welcome. Their personal touch and helpfulness did not go unnoticed and was very much appreciated.
As a family with a young child we appreciated the cleanliness and safety of the Cottage.
The location of the cottage is peaceful yet conventient to many small villages and beautiful beaches. We very much look forward to booking our next family holiday at Derryreel.
Within easy reach of Dunfanaghy and Falcarragh, this is an ideal base for touring the northern headlands of County Donegal, Slieve League and the Glenveagh National Park.
The accommodation would be roomy even with the full complement of seven guests. There is a large well-equipped modern kitchen, a lounge, huge dining room and pleasant sunroom downstairs, plus two family bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs.
The cottage has views all around and feels remote despite being only a few miles from Falcarragh. We had a hare visit the garden regularly.
The owners were friendly, extremely helpful and easy to contact when we had any questions.
We stayed for a fortnight and visited among other places:
Glenveagh National Park, Slieve League, Glencolmville Folk Village Museum, Glebe House and Gallery, Newmills Corn and Flax Mills, Fanad Lighthouse and Donegal Castle. The guides at the four last mentioned places were all excellent.
A very nice, well equipped and affordable cottage in a peaceful location near the mountains but in easy reach of the coast and the lovely small town of Dunfanaghy, as well as the Glenveigh National Park. The cottage is just as described in the advert and we liked the fact it is built to be eco-friendly in terms of heating and water supply. The underfloor heating thermostat can only be set by the owners and not adjusted by guests, but there is a log burner with fuel provided.
Anita the owner was very helpful and welcoming on our arrival, and answering a query while we were there. However, the downside for us was that during our stay we were very conscious that this is the owner's own holiday home which they are very keen to keep clean and unspoiled. Before we arrived we received several pages of very detailed house rules and instructions which were then duplicated in a folder in the cottage, and also pinned up around the walls with various requirements underlined and highlighted. Personally we did not find this conducive to a relaxing holiday, compared with the many other cottages we have rented over the last 30+ years. This is a shame because it is such a lovely and affordable place to stay.
