“Stunning - a slice of heaven!”
Reviewed 2 June 2013 for a stay in May 2013

We have just returned from a week's stay in this beautiful cottage which is lovingly kitted out and maintained by the wonderful and friendly owners Fran and Alan. The cottage is incredibly homely with stunning views of Mount Gabriel from the bright and window filled kitchen. The furnnishings are of a high standard and everything you could possibly want has been included. We arrived to find warm scones and homemade jam/marmalade - after a long journey it was just what we needed. The garden is amazing and so well cared for - and so private - we had fantastic weather and we felt we could have been sitting in a villa in Spain or Portugal! We were incredibly chilled by the end of our week and our only disappointment was having to leave! We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough....do not miss out on the experience.

“How Lucky Are We?!”
Reviewed 19 September 2012 for a stay in August 2012

Ancaire Cottage – August 2012

What a special week we had!
Ancaire Cottage was perfect in every way from the beautifully comfortable and tastefully furnished interior to the enchanting little cat – Baggy – who greeted us every time we ventured into the pretty and practical cottage garden, with the handsome hens providing the countryside sounds to enhance the peace and tranquillity surrounding the cottage.
The welcome we received from Fran and Alan was so warm and generous it felt as if we were visiting ‘old friends’!!! They were so kind all week – always there to answer our questions and help with our boat; and there was a host of really special treats awaiting us in the kitchen – wine, homemade scones and jam, smoked salmon pate – to name but a few – all delicious!
The area was stunning and we enjoyed numerous sorties, exploring the coast from Baltimore to Mizen Head and found some beautiful beaches. We launched our boat at a very safe slipway just 2 minutes away from the cottage at Rossbrin Cove and kayaked from the old harbour of Derreennatra (also only about 2 minutes away). We had close encounters with seals in the harbour at Schull and enjoyed the ‘oh so warm’ Irish hospitality in all the hostelries we visited, where the food we experienced was consistently excellent. We even managed a trip to Sherkin Island in our own boat, where we tied up to the quay and explored the island.
We felt so lucky to have found this wonderful cottage in such beautiful surroundings – I’m sure we shall be back – there’s so much we would still like to see and do, knowing that the comfort of Ancaire Cottage would await us at the end of each day.
And actually – my very favourite thing – I might have to admit - was the incredibly comfortable bed with its luxurious linen bedding!!!
Thank you for having us.

“Wonderful Cottage, Wonderful Hosts”
Reviewed 13 August 2012 for a stay in June 2012

In spite of the rain, we had a truly wonderful stay with Fran and Alan. They were excellent hosts and catered for our every need. They were kind enough to leave in wine, duck eggs, scones and tasty home made brown bread.

The cottage was out of this world. The furnishings were very impressive and comfortable. I thoroughly recommend and have already recommended to friends and family, a stay in this cosy and very quaint cottage.

“Luxurious charming cottage, excellent welcome, stunning views”
Reviewed 16 July 2012 for a stay in July 2012

My husband, two kids (9 and 5) and I have just had a fantastic weeks in Ancaire cottage in West Cork. The cottage itself was immaculate, and beautiful with two fantastic spacious bedrooms a comfortable living room with wide screen TV, well equipped kitchen and washer & dryer. The day we arrived Fran had baked us fresh scones and soda bread, and there were surprises left in the fridge, local delicacies such as salmon pate, and raspberry jam for the scones. There were fresh cut flowers in every room, the beds were sublimely comfortable, duck feather down, the furniture restored antiques, nothing cheap or shabby.
If that wasn't enough there were chickens, ducks, cats, dogs and even sheep for the kids to play with so they were in heaven. Fran kindly lent us a swingball set for the kids also.
Just down the road you can go pony trekking down to the nearby harbour of Rossbrin. We made sure to book next years holiday before we left, next time we'll stay two weeks!

“Delightful cottage and true hospitality”
Reviewed 23 June 2012 for a stay in May 2012

Fran and Alan gave us such a warm welcome on arrival that we immediately felt at home. The cottage was extremely well equipped and comfortable. In the fridge we had some fresh eggs from her own hens, bread and a few other provisions. The garden was delightful and very peaceful! With our own salad and herbs to pick!. If we needed anything we only had to ask.
We enjoyed a beautiful and relaxed week there and found Fran's and Alan's hospitality second to none and the cottage absolutely charming.
