“Beautiful cottage with great views!”

Mick and Laraine made us feel very welcome. The cottage looks just like everything we saw on the Internet. It is very cosy and really beautifully renovated. The views are amazing. Castletownbere is nearby and there is a good supermarket. You can do a lot of things on Beara, but make sure you go to Dursey Island. You really can't miss that. We were here for two weeks and enjoyed exploring Beara. And don't forget to go to Adrigole's Art and Giftshop for a cup of tea and a slice of Chocolate and Guinness Cake. It was our first time in Ireland and the people are very friendly. We hope to come back some day and we wouldn't hesitate to go to Four Directions Cottage again.

“Beautifully renovated Irish cottage, presented with great care”

The cottage is actually traditional ánd has been fitted with every conceivable comfort. The views are breathtaking and there are many beautiful walks and other activities in the area, of which all the information is provided in the cottage. Laraine and Mick are truly a great team, as he completely renovated the cottage while keeping many of its original features (wood burning stove!), and she is such a wonderful caretaker providing everything you may need at any time, added with small and elegant details that make for an extra warm welcome.

“We felt we were truly welcomed and made to feel at home”

We were helped from the moment Mick met us at the road-head when we arrived in darkness. He guided us to the cottage, and his wife Laraine showed us everything we needed to know. She left us milk, eggs, butter, tea and coffee, and home-made bread - a real touch of kindness. The cottage has been recently renovated and is very comfortable. It lies on rising ground, backed by Hungry Hill (really a mountain), and has a splendid view over Bere Island, Bantry Bay and Sheep's Head Peninsula. Castletownbere, just a mile or two away, is the cosy little metropolis of the Beara Peninsula. The area is full of history and legend, ideal for lovers of nature and hill-walkers, and the sea is always close by.

“Escape From Reality”

After a full week in the Four-Directions Cottage, my girlfriend and I returned completely refreshed.Mick and Laraine provide the perfect place to escape and relax.

The surrounding areas are full of the natural beauty that people have come to associate with the west of Ireland. There are scenic coastal drives and picturesque mountain views in abundance. With many parks, gardens and islands to visit, the area is perfect for the nature enthusiast or anybody that has an appreciation for natures raw beauty.

The cottage itself has everything that you could need and is extremely well kept. We could not find a single fault. The cottage is not far from the quiet town of Castletownbere yet still offers the illusion of seclusion.

Mick and Laraine made us feel welcome and gave us information on what to see and do in the area.

We were very sorry to leave as the cottage almost felt like home. Happy to have shared Mick and Laraine's little slice of heaven and will certainly return as soon as we can.

“A little slice of heaven!”

My husband and I and our 2 children stayed at four directions for the last week in August. It was our third holiday in Castletownbere but our first at four directions. Despite the weather we had a fabulous holiday and spent a lot of time in the cottage relaxing. The cottage is spotless and so cosy and we loved returning to it every evening. The kids loved the mezzanine and called it their den and it is actually bigger than the photos suggest, Mick and Laraine are so friendly and welcoming and are available anytime if they are needed. It is clear to see that they have put so much love and attention into renovating the cottage and they are delighted to be able to share it with all their quests. We were sad to leave and wished we could have stayed for another week. We hope to return again soon. Thank you Mick and Laraine.
