I have just returned from a four night trip with family, staying at the Blue Horizon in Garretstown, Kinsale. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Jim spent time showing us places of interest which we probably would never have found if left to our own devices. Mary's humour brightened each day, despite the poor weather! The entertainment was to a high standard and made our stay even more enjoyable. The 3 rooms we booked were clean, large and all had views of the sea. The breakfasts were delicious and substantia.. I would recommend the Blue Horizon as a perfect place to stay to tour the beautiful county of Cork.

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 19,20 and 21, These were very quiet, large and clean

We first visited Kinsale/Blue Horizon in 2008. We both immediately fell in love with the town, the views, the staff, and the healthy number of locals who frequented the pub at night.

I won't get into too much detail, most of the other reviews are spot on, but some of our experiences here have been tremendous. Our second trip in July 2011 was highlighted by a group of locals singing traditional Irish songs to us in the smoking room. I'll always remember my times here, and we will both come back again and again.

The drive out to Blue Horizon is beautiful and when you arrive at the B & B the view of the ocean just opens up. I was in Ireland for two weeks and stayed at multiple B& B's along the way and I wished I had stayed the whole two weeks at just this one. To be fair, not all of the rooms have an ocean view but it isn't difficult to leave your room and check out the view.

I have read some of the negative reviews that describe that there are other buildings attached and the rooms are showing their age. First off, at most rural B & B's the owner lives in the same building so yes there is a house attached but it doesn't not detract from the place. Also host Mary and Jimmy own a pub in the building which draws all of the locals - This is a positive thing! As for the age issue. . . the rooms with the prime views and size are the oldest rooms and as tourism increases in Ireland they will be remodeled. Old rooms in this case do not mean dirty, or messy . . . just older rooms. If you want Hyatt style rooms then request a downstairs remodeled room but you give up the view which is one of the main reasons to come to this economical location.

The highlight of the visit is the pub in which hosts Mary and Jimmy own. As many others have said, Mary and Jimmy treat you as if you are family and you can't help but treat them back in the same manner but the whole area is like that. I was fortunate enough to be there on a weekend that a local group that gets together at this pub once a month played. The night became what I imagined all of Ireland to be like . . . locals, young and old getting together to sing songs, tell stories and play traditional Irish songs. There were only a couple tourists in the pub out of nearly 50 Irish but by the time the night was over we were all Irish.

If you like luxury and Irish music staged for tourists, stay in the cities of Ireland. If you want a get away and the possibility of an authentic experience, Join Mary and Jimmy at the Blue Horizon for a taste of Real Ireland.

Warm and friendly greeting from owners Mary and her husband. All the usual things provided in the rooms, including toiletries and electric blankets. Amazing views over the bay. Breakfast was substantial and fresh. Lots of local information given, all of which was superb. Friendly welcome in the bar of an evening with the locals. This really is a place to recommend to anyone who is visiting the area. It was only a couple of minutes drive out of Kinsale.

My fiancé and I stayed at your bed and breakfast at the end of August 2010 and we loved it! We were able to join in on the last game of Bingo for the year and had the best time! The sisters that were running the B&B at the time were so kind and really made our visit. We wanted to tell you how thankful we were for everything and if we are lucky enough to visit in the future, we will be staying with you again!!

Thank you!!
Alli & Jess
